Job Description

Cuba-Rushford CSD  School Psychologist Internship 

- The Intern will work primarily at the Middle/High School under the supervision of a Licensed Psychologist. 

- The Intern will complete approximately 15-20 evaluations including re-evaluations, new referrals and review of records for the district. 

- The Intern will carry a caseload of 10-15 counseling students including IEP/504 Counseling as well as general education students. 

- The Intern will participate in two hours of individual face-to-face supervision per week. 

- The Intern will participate in bi-weekly Student Support Meetings afterschool. There will be opportunities for problem solving, implementation of counseling interventions, classroom interventions/strategies and consultation with teachers stemming from these meetings. 

- The Intern will observe site psychologists in CSE/504 meetings during the months of September and October. Starting in November, the Intern will be responsible for participating as a lead psychologist in meetings. There will be periodic observations by site supervisor. 

- The Intern will be evaluated using their University Internship Evaluation Form. 

- The Intern will participate in faculty meetings as required of all CRCS employees. 

- The Intern will have opportunities for travel to visit and/or work on cases at CRCS Elementary Building, Elm Street Academy Big Picture Program, and other BOCES Sites/Classrooms. 

- The Intern will be expected to participate in PD (Professional Development) days as outlined in the CRCS school calendar.

Key Responsibilities:
1. Assessment of Communication and Swallowing Disorders:
   • Conduct comprehensive evaluations to assess speech, language, voice, and fluency disorders among students.
   • Identify students with communication disabilities based on thorough assessments.
2. Development of Individualized Education Plans (IEPs):
   • Collaborate with teachers, parents, and other professionals to develop IEPs that meet the educational and therapeutic needs of students with speech or language impairments.
   • Set measurable goals for students and choose appropriate interventions.
3. Therapeutic Intervention:
   • Provide targeted, evidence-based therapy to address specific speech and language disorders.
   • Implement individual and group therapy sessions to improve students’ communication skills.
4. Monitoring and Documentation:
   • Monitor students’ progress and adjust interventions as necessary.
   • Maintain detailed records of students’ therapy sessions and outcomes.
5. Consultation and Collaboration:
   • Serve as a resource to school staff regarding speech and language development and disorders.
   • Consult with teachers to implement classroom-based strategies that support the communication needs of students.
6. Professional Development and Compliance:
   • Stay updated with the latest research and developments in speech-language pathology.
   • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, including specific New York State guidelines.
Qualifications:
1. Education:
   • Master’s degree in Speech-Language Pathology or a closely related field.
2. Certification/Licensing:
   • Certification by the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) with the Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech-Language Pathology (CCC-SLP).
   • New York State licensure as a Teacher of Students with Speech and Language Disabilities (TSSLD).
3. State Requirements:
   • Completion of mandated training in child abuse identification, school violence prevention, and the needs of students with autism.
   • Fingerprinting and background checks as required by New York State law.
4. Skills:
   • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
   • Ability to work collaboratively with school personnel and parents.
   • Analytical skills to diagnose disorders and measure outcomes effectively.
5. Experience:
   • Previous experience in a school setting is preferred, with specific experience in meeting the diverse needs of the student population in New York State.
