WORK DAYS: Temporary Position for Current Date - June 2025

CREDENTIAL REQUIREMENT: A Valid Pupil Personnel Services School Psychology Credential
 
 

PREAMBLE:
 
• School Psychologists have a minimum of a master’s degree and a Pupil Personnel Services credential. Many have also obtained doctoral degrees and/or are licensed in the areas of educational or clinical psychology.  
• School Psychologists provide the school district with expertise in the areas of child development, learning, abnormal psychology, assessment, statistics, consultation, counseling, and human relations.
• School Psychologists work with all children served by the school district, including students at private and nonpublic schools, as well as all children covered by special education legislation (infants through to age 22).
• Provides leadership and participates in programs and activities that promote diversity, equity and inclusion.
 
ASSESSMENT:
• Assesses student characteristics including intelligence, emotional adjustment, adaptive behavior, language development, learning potential, and social needs in order to determine appropriate class and program placement, utilizing nondiscriminatory tools.
• Evaluates and makes recommendations for special education services.
• Writes comprehensive assessment reports in accordance with the Education Code.
• Attends and participates in Student Study Team meetings for record review, interpretation of data, and making recommendations for at-risk students when needed

CONSULTATION / COUNSELING:
• Consults with and/or counsels students, staff, and outside agencies regarding academic, personal, emotional, and social needs of students.
• Provides crisis intervention and related services in cooperation with colleagues and community personnel.
• Develops behavior plans and interventions as needed to assist teachers and parents in positive behavior management.
• Develops functional behavioral assessment (FBA) reports in accordance with IEP mandates and SELPA guidelines.
• Provides education to parents and/or staff informally or through workshops or seminars, as requested.
• Serves as a support for students, staff, and parents during grief counseling.
• Provides individual and/or group counseling services for students, as appropriate.
• Assists staff in evaluating program and interventions, monitoring progress, and interpreting test data for at-risk students;Rrecommends academic interventions commensurate with assessment results (relating to e.g. learning styles, processing preferences, etc.).
• Facilitates understanding of district policies and special education law for staff and parents.
• Provides recommendations for a diverse student population, utilizing non-discriminatory practices.

COMMUNITY AND INTERAGENCY LIAISON:
• Prepares and follows up on referrals to local and state agencies (e.g. mental health, social services, psychiatric hospitals, etc.).
• Serves as a liaison between the schools and the consulting clinical psychologist, psychiatrist and/or other health officials or agencies.
• Provides lists of community resources to families.

ADMINISTRATIVE AND CLERICAL DUTIES:
• Develops assessment plans
• Arranges and notifies parents and staff of IEP meetings.
• Produces reports and interagency referrals.
• Reviews IEP documentation for accuracy.
• Prepares administrative and legal documents in accordance with the Education Code (IEP documents, etc.).
• Responsible for following procedures that collect state and federal revenues resulting from:
  • a) special education identification and services; and
  • b) Medi-Cal services.

PROFESSIONAL GROWTH:
• Maintains credential and/or licensure at the state and/or national level.
• Assumes responsibility for professional growth and keeps materials, supplies, and skills up to date.
• Attends workshops/seminars/professional meetings/trainings to remain informed of new developments, legislation, research, and professional literature in school psychology.

Position: Speech and Language Pathologist

Salary: Certificated Salary Schedule
 
Basic Function: Provides assessment and services for students with speech and language disabilities in the areas of articulation, receptive and expressive language, fluency, voice and deaf/hard of hearing.
 
Supervision: Under the general direction of the Director of Special Education. Under the immediate direction of the site administrator while performing speech and language services at the school site.
 
 
 
Physical Characteristics:
 
• Sit and stand for extended periods of time
• See and read printed material with or without visual aids
• Hear and understand speech at normal classroom levels, outdoors and on the telephone
• Speak so that others may understand at normal classroom levels, outdoors and on the telephone
• Stand, walk, bend over, reach overhead, grasp, push, pull, move lift and/or carry up to 25 pounds to waist height 
 
 
 
Conditions: Employees in this position will be required to work indoors and outdoors in a school environment and come in direct contact with students, families, district staff and the public. Services are provided in an environment that is conducive to effective individual and/or small group instruction.
 
 
 
Minimal Qualifications: Clinical or Rehabilitative Services – Language, Speech and Hearing Credential issued by California Commission on Teacher Credentialing. 
 
 
 
Representative Duties:
 
1. Identify, with the help of parents and school team, students who need communication assessments.
2. Assess students’ communication skills using appropriate test instruments, parent and teacher interviews, record review and observations relating speech and language needs to classroom learning.
3. Evaluate the results of a comprehensive assessment to determine if the findings qualify students for speech and language or other services with the help of the school team and the child’s parents/guardian.
4. Develop and implement individualized education programs (IEPs) for students who qualify for services under current federal and state regulations and local policies within legal timelines, in collaboration with parents and school teams.
5. Service and remediate communication deficits through the use of appropriate materials and activities including augmentative and alternative communication systems which directly correspond to goals and objectives set forth in IEPs
6. Document outcomes for students with communication disorders.
7. Train school staff and parents in understanding how various communication disorders affect academic development.
8. Collaborate with teachers and other school staff in developing and providing intervention strategies that foster students’ understanding, speaking, reading and writing skills that meet the demands of general school activities through inservices or personal communication with them.
9. Advocate for effective teaching practices by keeping abreast of curriculum development, program designs, and material choices within the school district and helping to serve on committees which make these decisions when appropriate.
10. Be available to serve on the Student Study Team as needed.
11. Participate in the IEP processes as a collaborative member of the mult-disciplinary team.
12.  Participate in staff meetings as requested.
13. Keep required documentation of services provided to include therapy logs and MediCal forms.
14. Prepare student progress reports and communicate with parents on such through personal meetings and/or phone conversations.

POSITION PURPOSE:
 
Design and implement an appropriate instructional program to meet the individual needs of students with developmental delays and/or disabilities as identified through the Individualized Education Program (IEP) process. This position reports to the program supervisor, Director of Special Education, or designee of the program to which the employee is assigned for administrative direction.
 
 
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES (ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS):
 
• Serves as a teacher in the preschool setting for students ages three to four years old, with a wide range of disabilities who are eligible for special education services.
• Assess students in pre-academic and academic skills; utilize assessment results to develop and implement individualized education programs (IEPs) based on student need as well as initiates or participate in IEP meetings with administrators, faculty, parents/guardians, and other parties involved.
• Develop and implement a structured curriculum that fosters early learning, creativity, and social skills.
• Create a safe, welcoming, and inclusive classroom environment for all children. Promote inclusion with other preschool peers and work with staff to develop inclusive practices.
• Plan and conduct engaging lessons that promote language development, early math skills, and sensory exploration.
• Use play-based learning techniques to encourage curiosity and problem-solving.
• Monitor and document students’ progress, behaviors, and development, communicating with parents/guardians as needed.
• Establish and enforce classroom rules and routines to support positive behavior.
• Work closely with paraeducators, related service providers, and other staff to provide individualized support for students with varying learning needs.
• Maintain student documents and IEP records, lesson files, classroom materials, supplies, and cleanliness to ensure an organized learning space.
• Follow all state licensing regulations, health, and safety guidelines for early childhood education programs.
• Utilizes District approved behavior modification techniques to implement the IEP goals and continually monitors student progress toward IEP goal achievement.
• Lifts, maneuvers, and positions students into and out of assistive and/or ambulatory devices to meet the requirements of the IEP.
• Attends to the basic needs of the students, such as feeding, cleaning, toileting, and diapering to meet the requirements of the IEP.
• Follows established policies and procedures for reporting incidents (e.g., child abuse, substance abuse, harassment, and violence).
• Communicates with families to create a partnership around student learning by providing information about the instructional program and the progress of their child(ren); advocates the special needs of the students with the school and community.
• Reflects on practice and student work to determine what went well and what changes could improve instruction and uses reflection to inform future instruction.
 
OTHER FUNCTIONS:
• During periods of critical shortage or other emergency situations, shall temporarily perform any duties as directed within the authorization of any credentials held by the incumbent that are part of the class description requirements in effect at the time such duties are performed.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
• Bachelor’s degree, including courses needed to meet credential requirements
• A valid Education Specialist Credential: Early Childhood Special Education or equivalent or combination of credentials authorizing service in a specific disability and at the level of this class description
• English Learning Authorization

QUALIFICATIONS: A valid CTC Credential or 30 day substitute teaching permit. Graduates who have completed education classes and have a recommendation from your college and proof of payment for your credential or sub permit may also apply.
 

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 

Daily contracted services for the current school year.
• First 1-30 days of current school year - $166 for full day/$83 for half day 
• 31-90 days of current school year - $194 for full day/$97 for half day
• 91+ days of current school year - $220 for full day/$110 for half day
• Long Term Assignment (61+ consecutive days in the same classroom responsible for for all teaching responsibilities) - $277 per day
                            
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
 
1. Maintain a positive learning environment and respond to the individual needs of the students.
2. Implement effective lessons in the absence of the regular Instructor.
3. Ensure that district policies are observed during all activities.
4. Create a safe classroom environment that is conducive to learning.
5. Keep all children in the classroom under supervision at all times.
