TITLE:    SUBSTITUTE BUS DRIVER
 
Rate: $33 per hour
 
QUALIFICATIONS:
Valid Commercial Driver's License
Minimum of three years previous safe driving experience.
Sufficient mechanical aptitude to diagnose minor problems and report the problem to the Transportation Supervisor, Business Administrator/Board Secretary, or designee.
Abillty to maintain passenger discipline to ensure their safety and well-being and protect against vandalism.
Required criminal history background check and proof of U.S. citizenship or legal resident alien status.

Ability to carry out assigned routes on time.

RESPONSIBLE FOR:
 
To transport pupils in a safe and efficient manner and perform all activities related to the operation of the school bus.
 
REPORTS TO:
Transportation Supervisor, Business Administrator/Board Secretary, or designee
 
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
Conducts a pre-trip safety inspection of the bus prior to every trip and completes the School Bus pre-trip Report.  Also conduct post trip inspections of the vehicle to assure nothing or no one is left on the bus and report any vandalism.  
Notifies Transportation Supervisor, Business Administrator/Board Secretary, or designee, of any mechanical malfunction and/or safety hazards.
Adheres to established routes, designated bus stops and keeps to assigned time schedule, including field trips and athletic events.
Transports only authorized pupils and staff members.
Obeys all traffic laws and observes mandatory school bus safety regulations.
  
Maintains a friendly rapport with pupils, parents and staff.
Maintains discipline on the bus and reports violations to the building principal or other authorized individual.
Reports all accidents and pupil injuries immediately to the school principal and the Transportation Supervisor and complete required reports.
Participates in emergency evacuation drills in accordance with board policy, and instructs passengers regarding safety regulations and other bus rules.
 
Performs interior bus cleaning duties daily, cleans windows and exterior as needed, and refuels the vehicle.
 
In conjunction with the aide (if so assigned to the vehicle) insures that all pupils are properly seated and wearing their seat belts.  
 
Attend safety meetings and training, as required.
 
Anything else deemed necessary by the Transportation Supervisor and/or Business Administrator/Board Secretary.
 
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
 
Hourly rate and work year to be determined by the board of education.
EVALUATION:
Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the board's policy on evaluation of non certified staff.

4. Completes clerical duties as assigned by the special education classroom teacher.
 
5. Assists pupils with various projects, crafts, and curriculum tasks.
 
6. Helps with the supervision of children on field trips planned by the teacher.
 
7. Assists in playground supervision.
 
8. Engages children in conversation to encourage language development.
 
9. Aids physically handicapped children, particularly those who rely upon appliances and prosthetics.
