    Brookfield Public Schools is seeking an amazing Assistant Superintendent of Schools.

    Brookfield Public School District:
     Brookfield is currently searching for an outstanding Assistant Superintendent to effectively develop, implement, and evaluate the curriculum and programs of the Brookfield Public Schools, maximizing student outcomes, ensure the employment and evaluation of school personnel of the highest quality, provide quality staff development programs for staff and administration and effectively assist in facilitating the goals approved by the Board of Education.
     

     GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES:
    The Assistant Superintendent oversees the District’s instructional programs, ensuring alignment with goals and student success. This role includes managing professional development, student assessments, and curriculum development.  Collaborating with school leaders and stakeholders, the Assistant Superintendent supports the District's educational goals.  The Assistant Superintendent also leads the Human Resources Department, ensuring the District attracts and retains qualified staff.
     
    SUPERVISION RECEIVED:
    The Assistant Superintendent is responsible to and serves under the direction of the Superintendent of Schools in accordance with the policies, rules, and regulations of the Board of Education.
     
    SUPERVISION EXERCISED:
    The Assistant Superintendent supervises the Principals, Director of Instruction, program leaders, Certified and non-certified staff, Curriculum Support Teachers and the Human Resources Supervisor. The Assistant Superintendent oversees the Human Resources department, ensuring effective staffing, recruitment, and employee relations across the District. The Assistant Superintendent also assists in the evaluation of administrators, department chairpersons, team leaders, district-wide curriculum coordinators, and other certified staff as designated by the Superintendent.
     
    JOB GOAL:
     At the direction of the Superintendent, the Assistant Superintendent works to:

     
    • effectively develop, implement, and assess, in collaboration with the CAPE subcommittee of the Board, the curriculum and programs of the Brookfield Public Schools to maximize student outcomes
    • ensure the employment and evaluation of school personnel of the highest quality
    • provide quality staff development programs for staff and administration
    • effectively assist in facilitating the goals approved by the Board of Education
     

       EVALUATION:

     The Assistant Superintendent will be evaluated annually by the Superintendent in accordance with mutually developed performance objectives and the assistant superintendent's job description.
      
    ILLUSTRATIVE EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED (List is not all inclusive):

    Curriculum and Instruction

     1.   Provides direction to the Director of Instruction and establishes appropriate procedures to ensure ongoing evaluation and, as necessary, revision of curriculum.
     
    2.   Supervises district administrators and other assigned staff, as assigned by the Superintendent, to assure that appropriate, timely and effective instructional procedures are employed by the instructional staff.
     
    3.   Appropriately interprets district policies and regulations regarding approved curriculum to staff and makes appropriate recommendations regarding new and/or revised policies or regulations.
     
    4.   Assists in the formulation of a philosophy and objectives for the instructional program.
     
    5.   Keeps abreast of current developments in curriculum, instruction, and assessment at state, regional and national levels and furnishes leadership in determining their appropriateness for inclusion in the district's educational program.
     
    6.   Directs and encourages, in collaboration with the Director of Instruction, the development, publication, and use of new instructional materials by the professional staff.
     
    7.   Effectively guides the development, implementation, and evaluation of pre-service and inservice training programs for professional personnel.
     
    8.   Develops and coordinates those sections of the budget that pertain to curriculum, instruction, assessment, professional development, and personnel.
     
    9.   Effectively interprets the curriculum and its philosophy to the Board, the administration, the staff, and the general public.
     
    10. Assists in the development of educational specifications for remodeling projects and/or new construction.
     
    11. Coordinates efforts of the professional staff in projects regarding curriculum improvement.
     
    12. Supervises the direction for district curriculum related committees to ensure continuity and articulation of the instructional program throughout the district.
     
    13. Facilitates the selection of textbooks for the district through use of faculty committees and in accordance with board policy.
     
    14. Collaborates with special services in planning instructional programs.
     
    15. Provides leadership in the development of a correlated and integrated program of instruction for kindergarten through 12th grade in all areas of instruction.
     
    16. Observes teachers in their classrooms upon request of principals, and offers insights for the enhancement of the teaching-learning situation.
     
    17. Provides leadership in ensuring that an ongoing program of improvement, development and evaluation of testing instruments and measures is maintained.
     
    18. Assumes responsibility for directing the development of curriculum for any course newly mandated by the legislature or the board.
     
    19. Such other duties or responsibilities that the superintendent may assign.
     
    Personnel

     1.   Interprets existing personnel policies and regulations to the staff and makes recommendations concerning the formulation and/or revisions of policies and regulations.
     
    2.   Supervises the recruitment, screening, hiring, training and assigning of instructional personnel.
     
    3.   Participates in the contract negotiation process.
     
    4.   Consults with HR supervisor/director regarding concerns with employees to resolve complaints, difficulties, and other matters related to personnel management, and works with building administrators on difficult or sensitive personnel concerns.
     
    5.   Consults with HR supervisor/director regarding maintenance and revision of district system for personnel records for all school employees in order to provide a comprehensive, efficient, accurate, and current record of all matters pertinent to employment, transfer, tenure, retirement, leave, promotion and so on.
     
    6.   Consults with HR supervisor/director regarding preparation and maintenance of data on all personnel and submits the necessary statistical reports to the State Department of Education and to the board.
     
    7.   Such other duties or responsibilities that the superintendent may assign.
     
    School and Community Relations:

     1.   Coordinates the development of a shared vision for the future of Brookfield schools.
     
    2.   Promotes active support for education from all levels of the community.
     
    3.   Effectively involves and coordinates the involvement of the CAPE subcommittee in curriculum and program development, revision and evaluation.
      
    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND CAPACITIES:

    The Assistant Superintendent must possess a broad working knowledge of the overall school operation and educational programs. This role requires the ability to engage with a variety of committees composed of administrators, teachers, parents, students, and others, while coordinating multiple activities simultaneously. Strong leadership skills are essential. The Assistant Superintendent must also have expertise in budget preparation, professional development, staff evaluation, conflict management, curriculum development, and personnel management.
      
    EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS:

     1.   Certificate of Advanced Graduate Study (6th. Year Certificate).
     
    2.   Must hold a valid Connecticut (092) certificate for Intermediate Administration/Supervision. Additional certification as Superintendent of Schools in CT (093) a plus.
     
    3.   An educational background that includes graduate courses in curriculum development, public school administration, tests and measurements, public school finance, personnel management, child growth and development, philosophical foundations in education and appropriate learning theory.
     
    4.   Experience as a classroom teacher at the elementary and/or secondary level, and administrative experience, preferably as a public school principal, within the last five years.
     
    5    Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the school board may find appropriate and acceptable.


     Proof of successful teaching and administrative experience, Central Office experience preferred.
    • Masters Degree in an academic field with advanced work in administration sufficient to meet Connecticut qualifications for administrative certificate.
    • Strong interpersonal skills.
    • Proven team building and collaboration skills
    • Expertise incurriculum development, instruction, and assessment.
    • Expertise in data driven professional development and teacher evaluation.
    • Experience working with and developing curriculum to support English language learners a plus.
     

     Compensation Package
     
    Highly competitive salary and benefits package as established and contractually agreed to with the Board of Education.
    Salary range - depending on qualifications and experience.
