Position: Teacher of English as a Second Language (ESL)
Job Summary:
Bogota Public Schools is seeking a New Jersey-certified ESL Teacher to support multilingual learners in developing their English proficiency. The ideal candidate will design and implement engaging lessons that foster growth in listening, speaking, reading, and writing while creating an inclusive, culturally responsive classroom environment. This position requires collaboration with students, families, and staff to support academic success and language development in alignment with the New Jersey Student Learning Standards (NJSLS) and WIDA English Language Development (ELD) Standards.
Responsibilities:
Develop and implement differentiated lesson plans to meet the language proficiency levels of multilingual learners.
Use a variety of instructional strategies to enhance students' oral and written communication skills.
Design and administer assessments to track student progress and guide instruction.
Provide individualized support for students with IEPs, 504 Plans, or other specialized needs.
Maintain accurate records of student progress, attendance, and assessment data as required by district and state guidelines.
Collaborate with general education teachers, intervention specialists, and student support staff to integrate language instruction across subject areas.
Communicate regularly with parents and guardians regarding student progress and strategies for language development at home.
Stay informed about current research and best practices in ESL instruction through ongoing professional development.
Support district-wide efforts to foster cultural diversity, equity, and inclusion in the curriculum and school community.
Qualifications & Requirements:
Valid New Jersey Teaching Certification as a Teacher of English as a Second Language (ESL).
Bachelor’s degree in English as a Second Language, Applied Linguistics, Education, or a related field.
TESOL, CELTA, or equivalent ESL certification (preferred).
Experience working with multilingual learners (MLs), English learners (ELs), or emergent bilingual students.
Knowledge of WIDA English Language Development (ELD) Standards and NJDOE bilingual/ESL regulations.
Strong classroom management and ability to create a positive, inclusive learning environment.
Excellent communication and collaboration skills with students, families, and colleagues.
Experience using technology and digital tools to support language acquisition.
Preferred Qualifications:
Master’s degree in TESOL, Education, Linguistics, or a related field.
Bilingual in Spanish, Arabic, or another language common to the school community.
Experience with Sheltered Instruction Observation Protocol (SIOP), WIDA Can-Do Descriptors, or Dual Language Models.
