    BAND TEACHER

     

     

    Position Purpose:

     

    The 5th-12th Grade Band Teacher fosters a love for music by developing students’ instrumental skills and directing band programs, including concert, marching, and pep bands. This role involves teaching music theory, performance techniques, and ensemble skills while aligning with Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction standards. The teacher organizes performances, collaborates with staff, communicates with parents, and contributes to school and community events, supporting the district’s mission and educational goals. This position reports to the building principal.

     

    Essential Job Functions

     
    • Teaches skills in music appreciation, harmony, and explorations in music to elementary pupils.  Uses the course of study adopted by the Board of Education and other appropriate learning activities.

    • Instructs pupils in citizenship and basic subject matter specified in the state law and administrative regulations and procedures of the school district.

    • Plans a balanced music program and organizes daily class time so that preparation, rehearsal, and instruction can be accomplished within the allotted time.

    • Uses a repertoire of all types of music literature, including traditional and contemporary, that are appropriate for the ages and skill levels of pupils.

    • Provide individualized and small-group instruction to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each pupil.

    • Instructs pupils in proper care of use of instruments, equipment and supplies.  Makes minor adjustments and requests repairs as required.

    • Establishes and maintains standards of pupil behavior needed to provide an orderly, productive environment in the classroom, during practice, group rehearsals, and musical performances.

    • Evaluates each pupil’s musical growth and performance, assessing each individual’s contribution to the performance of the group.

    • Organizes storage areas and controls use of materials, equipment and tools to prevent loss or abuse, and to minimize time required for distribution and collection.

    • Communicates with the parents to interpret contemporary methods in teaching music and with parents and school counselors to discuss the individual pupil’s progress

    • Identifies pupil needs and cooperates with other professional staff members in assessing and helping pupils solve health, attitude and learning problems.

    • Cooperates with the school administration in providing musical programs for school productions, graduation ceremonies, and civic functions.

    • Supervises pupils in out-of-classroom activities during the assigned work day.

    • Participates in curriculum and other developmental programs.

    • Plans, rehearses, and directs pupils in musical programs for the school and the community.

    • Maintains professional competence through in-service education activities provided by the district, and in self-selected professional growth activities

     

    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

     
    • Teaching Certificate from Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction

    • Bachelor and/or Masters Degree in Education/Music

    • Preference given to teachers with experience

    • Alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board of Education may find appropriate and acceptable

    • Demonstrates understanding at the implantation level of our Mission Vision and Goals

    • Demonstrates proficiency in the WI Teaching Standards, district teaching expectations and delivery of the WI content standards for Music

    Salary Range:  Based on DPI licensure and district hiring schedule  $42,452 - $85,906
