POSITION SUMMARY
The Turnaround Reading Specialist promotes and develops successful reading instruction for students. Responsible for assessing students’ reading level, group and individual instruction, monitoring student progress and adjusting curriculum to meet students’ needs. Provides leadership for the school’s entire literacy program, collaborating with teachers, coaches, and administration, and serves as a resources within the school and for the community.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
EDUCATION:
- Bachelors degree in education required.
CERTIFICATION/LICENSE
:• Georgia PSC Certificate in required in reading or ela. • Reading Endorsement preferred.
WORK EXPEREINCE:- 5 years of successful classroom teaching experience.
- Experience in modeling effective teacher behavior to adult learners in a variety of settings.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES - Knowledge of research-based best practices and interventions in the area of reading
- Ability to promote collaborative planning as a component of school turnaround.
- Ability to analyze student and school data.
- Ability to effectively develop and deliver content-specific professional learning.
- Ability to be flexible and adapt as needed between in-person work environments.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
• Screens and assesses students to establish proper performance level. • Provides intensive instruction to struggling students individually or in small groups within or outside of the students’ classrooms. • Analyzes school and student data and recommends modifications to instruction and interventions for students for meeting and exceeding student achievement goals. • Monitors student progress and arranges for academic interventions based on formative and summative assessments. • Serves as a resource in the area of mathematics for paraprofessionals, teachers, administrators, and the community. • Collaborates with teachers to ensure student mastery of standards by assisting with data driven instructional planning, integration of technology and implementation of research based strategies. • Required to have prompt, regular attendance in-person and be available to work on-site, in-person during regular business hours and as needed. • Performs other duties as assigned by principal, immediate supervisor and district-level administration. Strength: Ability to lift, push, pull and/or carry objects which weigh as much as 15 or more pounds on a frequent basis.
Environmental Requirements: Ability to encounter constant work interruptions; work cooperatively with others; work independently; work indoors.
Mental Requirements: Ability to read, write, understand, interpret and apply information at a moderately complex level essential for successful job performance; math skills at a high school proficiency level; judgement and the ability to process information quickly; learn quickly and follow verbal procedures and standards; give verbal instruction; rank tasks in order of importance; copy, compare, compile and coordinate information and records. Additional Work Conditions & Physical Abilities: Will require travel to multiple sites.
