Job Summary
The Part Time Custodian maintains clean floors, furniture, fixtures, and grounds in Anchorage School District schools. The Custodian reports needed repairs and monitors the building for safety while also securing the building at the end of the day. The position has a retirement association with the Public Employees’ Retirement System (PERS).
 
Job Requirements
The following are required:
1. A high school diploma or equivalent. Two years of related work experience may be considered in lieu of the education requirement.
2. Some experience related to custodial work.
3. Must have the ability to read and interpret documents such as Safety Data Sheets (SDS).
4. Must be able to travel to any school within the Anchorage School District.
5. Must be able to work any shift, typically day or second shift.
6. Must have reliable transportation to get to and from work, as well as be able to travel between schools during a single shift, as necessary.
7. The Anchorage School District requires that the selected applicant for this position be given a conditional offer of employment contingent upon successfully passing a post offer/pre-employment physical capacities assessment. The following are preferred:
1. A current Alaska driver’s license.
2. Six months of successful responsible custodial experience.
3. Knowledge of the safe and effective use of common electrical cleaning equipment.
4. Skill for efficient use of time, motion, tools, equipment, and supplies to produce quality work on time.
5. Ability to use simple math and dilution ratios to properly dilute concentrated chemicals.
6. Ability to learn ASD methods of cleaning and materials used in custodial work.
7. Ability to do heavy manual work.
8. Ability to work independently.
 
Essential Job Functions
1. Sweeps vacuums, mops, scrubs, and refinishes (to include waxing) floor surfaces.
2. Dusts, washes, and waxes furniture and fixtures.
3. Cleans restroom toilet bowls, sinks, walls, etc.
4. Assists in securing the facility before exiting, including turning out lights and locking doors and windows.
5. Watches the building to prevent vandalism or damage by persons authorized or unauthorized to be in the facility or on the grounds.
6. Reports the need for repairs to facility fixtures or custodial equipment to proper authorities for necessary repairs.
7. Operates electrical custodial equipment safely and effectively and cleans this equipment after use.
8. Safely and effectively works with different chemicals such as detergents, disinfectants, and sanitizers.
9. Shampoos carpeting by various methods such as bonnet, encapsulation, steam, etc. Spot cleans carpets as necessary.
10. Performs heavy lifting while moving equipment, chemicals, furniture, etc., as necessary.
11. Maintains school grounds by removing paper, cans, and other trash from the school grounds on a daily basis.
12. Clears building sidewalks by sweeping and/or removing snow for activities/evening access. Clears a path to dumpster for safety of trash removal as needed.
 
Physical /Mental Demands
The physical demands of this job require frequent standing, walking, sitting, speaking and hearing. Specific visual abilities are also required. The employee is regularly required to reach with his/her hands and arms and occasionally lift items weighing less than 40 lbs. Additionally, the employee must be able to understand vague and implicit instructions, be able to readily recall facts and details, handle conflict and make effective decisions under pressure. The employee must have the ability to effectively manage the stress of working with students, parents, and other employees representing diverse cultures, personalities, and work styles in a dynamic work environment.

This position is not assigned to a single location but travels between locations as needed. The position has a retirement association with the Public Employees’ Retirement System (PERS).

Temporary Technician Security

Job Summary
The  Temp Security Technician routinely patrols Anchorage School District property to prevent vandalism and burglary, assists in arming security systems, investigates issues, and implements board policy relating to security.
 
Job Requirements
The following are required:
1. A high school diploma or equivalent.
2. The individual must have a clean driving record and be readily able to locate and drive to any and all ASD facilities with either a district-provided or personal vehicle.
3. The individual must be able to readily enter and egress vehicles and buildings, perform facility walk-throughs and inspections, etc.
4. This position requires the wear of distinctive security officer clothing, to be provided at the employee's expense.
5. Must have knowledge of office procedures and responsibilities.
6. Must be able to maintain a neatly and legibly written daily log of activities.
7. Must have the capability to prepare and interpret written instructions and reports, and to write clear and concise correspondence, memoranda, and reports.
8. Must have the knowledge of and experience with computerized security alarm systems as well as single-line facility layouts for purposes of identifying breach points, sources of trouble, etc.
9. Must be able to train others in the use of computerized security alarm systems.
10. Must be able to perceive and react to possible problems in the field.
11. Must be willing to work variable and flexible hours, day or night, including weekends and holidays.
12. Must be able to remain alert and work well under stress.
13. Must have the ability to operate a Windows computer and Microsoft Office Professional software.
Note: This position does not require and does not allow for the carrying of displayed or concealed weapons. Weapons are not permitted in school buildings or on school grounds, except as allowed for sworn law enforcement personnel such as officers with the Anchorage Police Department.
 
Essential Job Functions
1. Implements Anchorage School Board policies as they pertain to security operations.
2. Receives alarm calls from monitoring agency and determines and initiates appropriate response, whether by self, the security company, or the Anchorage Police Department.
3. Provides routine patrolling of ASD property to prevent vandalism and burglary.
4. Assists ASD custodians and others in resolving alarm system arming problems.
5. Checks out late-to-close situations at ASD facilities.
6. Investigates vandalism, theft, and break-ins. Works with local law enforcement as appropriate.
7. Advises the director of Operations and other ASD officials regarding incidents.
8. Maintains basic records of all security activities while on shift. Follows up on selected items as requested by supervisors.
9. Collaborates with ASD electronic technicians regarding the repair and maintenance of alarm equipment, troubleshooting activities, etc.
10. Helps organize and implement high school graduation week security enhancements.
11. Helps implement and maintain Camper Host Security Program activities at selected schools.
12. Conducts investigations of security complaints originating on ASD property.
13. Advises the director of Operations of security problem areas that require special attention.
