    SALARY/BENEFITS:          In accordance with the teachers’ contract
     
    REQUIREMENTS:              

     
    • Valid Connecticut Certification #111 (TESOL, PK–12) required. 

     
    • Strong knowledge of second language acquisition and effective instructional strategies. 

     
    • Experience working with diverse student populations preferred. 

     
    • Excellent communication and collaboration skills. 

     
    • Ability to create an inclusive and culturally responsive learning environment. 

     

    GOAL: To serve as a resource, advisor, and instructor to staff, students, administrators, and parents for the promotion of literacy skills and strategies with a focus on developing and improving English proficiency for English Language Learners/Multi-Language Learners in the district. 
     
    PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITES (* Indicates ELL/MLL specific duties)

     
    • Plan, coordinate, and conduct in-service training, staff development, professional learning services related to best instructional practices for ELL/MLL students. 

    • Coordinate ELL/MLL identification and programming with counterparts within the BOWA region. 

    • Administer the state’s annual LAS Links Language Proficiency assessment. 

    • Investigate ongoing technology appropriate for ELL/MLL instruction and support. 

    • Plan and provide instruction that meets state and federal standards aligned to CELP Standards. 

    • Screen Home Language Surveys and administer the initial English Language Proficiency assessment for eligible students. 

    • Travel to/from school district buildings to provide instruction and support to ELL/MLL identified students as needed. 

    • Teach ELL students through planning and individualizing instruction to meet student needs.  

    • Articulate and monitor the delivery of the TESOL program within each grade. 

    • Collect and provide data regarding student achievement and inform students of the basis of assessment. 

    • Partner with teachers/instructors to support effective instruction for English Language Learners. 

    • Provide staff coaching and in-service programs related to multilingual learners. 

    • Communicate with parents and the greater community about learner needs and successes. 

    • Assist in the completion of state mandated documentation. 

    • Maintain complete and accurate records of student progress with evidence of student growth. 

    • Utilize opportunities for professional improvement through self-study, workshops, course work and in-service training. 

    • Contribute constructively to committees, meetings, and other school system groups. 

    • Provide support to teachers and students with district and state assessments. 

    • Model, coach and team-teach instructional strategies in the classrooms, when needed. 

    • Meet professional responsibilities listed in the Connecticut Teacher Competencies. 

    • Set high standards for student performance and achievement while still recognizing variations in student backgrounds, abilities, and learning styles. 

    • Perform other duties associated with the position as directed by the Assistant Superintendent.
