Minimum Qualifications:
Position Summary:
The High School CTE Sports Medicine Teacher is responsible for delivering high-quality instruction in sports medicine, health, and related subjects to prepare students for careers in sports medicine, athletic training, physical therapy, and other health-related professions. The teacher will design and implement a curriculum that integrates hands-on learning, career exploration, and industry-relevant skills. This position requires fostering an engaging, student-centered learning environment while meeting district, state, and national standards for CTE programs.
Key Responsibilities:
Instructional Planning & Delivery:
Develop and implement a comprehensive sports medicine curriculum aligned with CTE standards.
Use a variety of teaching methods, including lectures, demonstrations, labs, and hands-on experiences, to teach sports medicine concepts such as anatomy, physiology, injury prevention, treatment, rehabilitation, and emergency care.
Integrate technology and industry tools into classroom instruction to provide real-world experiences.
Student Engagement & Support:
Foster a positive, inclusive learning environment that encourages student participation, curiosity, and growth.
Provide individualized instruction and support to meet diverse student needs, including those with special education or English Language Learner (ELL) needs.
Mentor and guide students in exploring careers in sports medicine and related fields.
Assessment & Evaluation:
Design assessments that measure student learning outcomes and mastery of course content.
Use data from formative and summative assessments to inform instructional practices and improve student achievement.
Maintain accurate records of student progress, attendance, and grades.
Classroom & Lab Management:
Ensure a safe and organized learning environment, including proper use of sports medicine equipment and supplies.
Maintain a clean, functional, and efficient laboratory space for practical, hands-on learning experiences.
Supervise students in clinical and fieldwork experiences, ensuring compliance with safety standards.
Professional Development & Collaboration:
Stay current with trends, best practices, and certifications in sports medicine and CTE teaching.
Participate in school and district professional development opportunities and CTE program meetings.
Collaborate with colleagues, industry professionals, and advisory committees to ensure program alignment with industry needs and standards.
CTE Program Development & Leadership:
Lead the development and growth of the sports medicine program, ensuring alignment with state-approved CTE frameworks and graduation pathways.
Work with community partners, local businesses, and post-secondary institutions to establish work-based learning opportunities, internships, and dual-credit opportunities for students.
Promote student involvement in Career and Technical Student Organizations (CTSOs) like HOSA (Health Occupations Students of America).
Compliance & Reporting:
Ensure program compliance with all district, state, and federal regulations governing CTE programs.
Maintain and submit required reports related to program outcomes, student performance, and industry certifications.
Qualifications:
Education:
Bachelor’s degree in Sports Medicine, Athletic Training, Kinesiology, Health Sciences, or a related field required.
Master’s degree preferred.
Certification/License:
Valid state teaching certification with an endorsement in CTE or appropriate subject area.
Certification in Athletic Training, CPR, First Aid, or other relevant professional credentials preferred.
Experience:
Experience in the sports medicine or healthcare field is required.
Prior teaching or coaching experience, particularly in a CTE program, is preferred.
Skills & Competencies:
Strong knowledge of sports medicine principles, anatomy, physiology, and injury prevention techniques.
Ability to engage students with varied instructional techniques.
Strong classroom management skills, particularly in a lab setting.
Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
Commitment to student success and development of career readiness skills.
