The Appalachia Intermediate Unit 8 (AIU8) is one of the 29 intermediate units that provides a vast array of services for member school districts, including student services, training and technical assistance, online learning, and customized programs and services. IU8 includes four counties comprised of 35 school districts (approximately 98 schools) and five Career Technical Centers. Appalachia Intermediate Unit 8 serves approximately 47,000 students across four counties within 3500 square miles. Our service area includes four counties: Blair, Somerset, Bedford, and Cambria. We have five different office locations within our service area: Altoona, Duncansville, Ebensburg, Richland, and Somerset. Job Summary:
A Virtual Learning Facilitator is a certified professional trained in facilitating learning in a fully remote environment. The facilitator will be competent in the teaching of their subject area(s), instruct, and support students enrolled in the World of Learning Institute. Leveraging innovative instructional strategies and resources, they employ a blend of synchronous and asynchronous instructional approaches ensuring an engaging and effective educational journey for all learners.
Key Responsibilities:
· Deliver instruction in the assigned subject.
· Collaborate on and/or assist with the design of virtual and hybrid subject-specific courses.
· Complete professional development and demonstrate competency with specified Learning Management Systems, Student Information Systems, and live remote interaction software.
· Assist with instructional design and development.
· Assist with multimedia design and development in the specified formats.
· Plan and coordinate student assessments.
· Accurately and timely report student data/grades.
· Deliver standards-aligned, research-based instruction, including rubrics, assessments, etc.
· Implement innovative teaching and learning strategies in the digital environment.
· Provide virtual instruction services to students.
· Communicate regularly with students, families, and districts regarding student progress.
· Act as an advisor to homeroom students.
· Serve as a resource to help students use technology to customize their learning and/or their learning environment.
· Assume any other responsibilities as assigned by Virtual Learning Specialists and Supervisors of the World of Learning.
Requirements:
· A Bachelor’s Degree and certification to teach the appropriate subject area as required by the Pennsylvania Department of Education or other acceptable alternative credentials. Experience in instructional design and/or virtual learning preferred.
· Upon hire, all new employees must obtain a certificate of medical examination as well as a tuberculosis test as required under Chapter 14 of the Public School Code, 24 P.S. §§14-1416, 14-1418; 22 Pa Code §49.12(b) (regarding education); and 28 Pa Code §23.44 (regarding health and safety).
· Must possess current, valid Act 34, Act 114 and Act 151 clearances as well as completed and acceptable Act 168 background checks.
