    SUMMARY: 
    Provide effective leadership that focuses on newcomers’ language development through peer engagement, academic enrichment, and local experiences.  Guide the development of a caring collaborative community that includes all stakeholders in the school.  Provide purpose and vision for the school.  Manage the human and financial resources to ensure a positive learning environment.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.     Job Tasks Descriptions:
    1. Plan and execute newcomer summer programming for middle and high school newcomers with a clear focus, communicating your vision for the program, and being a change agent for academic and social emotional well-being of the newcomer community.
    2. Work alongside the summer school principal to coordinate shared summer school resources including facilities, office staff, recruitment and enrollment, transportation, nutrition services, etc.
    3. Serve as the central point of contact for school sites, summer school, community-based organizations, and central office to provide focused on clear protocols, procedures, and communication.
    4. Hire quality certified and classified staff to plan for highly engaging, highly scaffolded, language forward classroom experiences, plan engaging field trips, and chaperone field trips.
    5. Assess quality of program by monitoring, being visible, conducting Walk Throughs regularly, communicating, and providing a clear behavior structure and academic atmosphere.
    6. Align instruction with state and district standards, use the district evaluation system, provide expectations for an orderly atmosphere, hold data discussions with staff and teachers, and adapt to the needs of the current situation by seeking input from school and district staff. 
    7. Establish and foster an adult learning environment by maximizing collaboration and adult learning to improve instruction, providing teachers with materials, inspiring new and challenging innovations, and valuing a sense of community.
    9. Perform other duties as assigned.

    EDUCATION AND RELATED WORK EXPERIENCE:
    • Master’s degree in Education Administration plus additional coursework required for CDE principal license.
    • Minimum of five years of experience in teaching/leadership, including a minimum of three years of teaching.
    • Supervisory responsibilities include hiring, disciplining, terminating, directing work, assigning work, training and evaluating preferred.

    LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS or CERTIFICATIONS:
    • CDE Secondary principal license.
