    TITLE:     Health Science Teacher
    Where: Abbeville County Career Center
    REPORTS TO:   Director, Abbeville County Career Center

    Summary: The Health Science Career Center Teacher is responsible for delivering engaging, standards-based instruction to prepare students for careers in the healthcare industry. This role includes teaching foundational health science concepts, guiding students in hands-on skills development, and facilitating work-based learning experiences. The teacher will support students in obtaining industry certifications and preparing for post-secondary education or direct entry into the healthcare workforce.
     
    JOB GOALS: To teach the content and skills required for students to attain industry certifications in the area of health science.

    QUALIFICATIONS:            
    • Certification: Valid teaching certificate in Health Science (or ability to obtain certification per state requirements)
    • Preferred:
      • Industry certifications such as RN, LPN, EMT, or other healthcare credentials
      • Experience with Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs and work-based learning initiatives
      • Knowledge of current healthcare trends and workforce demands
    • Hands-on work experience in one of the approved health care professions after professional certification
    • Professional health care license REQUIRED. Registered Nurse South Carolina Board of Nursing
    • Meets all requirements of the Career and Technology
    • Education Work-Based Certification in Health Science area
    • Documented successful teaching experience preferred
    • Long-Term Care experience preferred
    • Proficiency in the use of technology preferred
    Bachelor’s, Master’s or Doctorate degree – Requires 6 months of time healthcare work experience.
     OR
     Associate of Science degree – Requires 2 years of full time healthcare work experience during the last 5 years.
      
    PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
    1. Plans, organizes, and instructs direct patient care skills including CPR, first-aid, infection control procedures, and vital signs procedures during the day;
    2. Develop and implement an instructional program aligned with state and district health science standards
      1. Prepares course materials, objectives, standards, and goals in preparation of  industry certifications;
      2. Implements, documents, and maintains instructional standards, objectives and goals;
      3. Evaluates student attainment of learning outcomes by monitoring program goals and curriculum;
      4. Maintain accurate student records, including attendance, grades, and certification achievements
      5. Assists students in participating and acquiring work-based learning experiences;
      6. Prepare engaging, hands-on learning experiences that reflect real-world healthcare settings
      7. Supervise students in laboratory settings and ensure the proper use of medical equipment and materials
      8. Assess student performance through a variety of formative and summative assessments
    3. Ensure compliance with safety and health regulations in the classroom and clinical settings
    4. Recruits students to develop and maintain the instructional program;
    5. Maintains responsibility for students’ well-being at all times;
    6. Organizes, maintains and submits purchase order requests for supplies and equipment to be used with the curriculum as needed;
    7. Assures that all students are engaged in the learning process;
    8. Integrates knowledge of industry trends and professional training to continuously improve program quality;
    9. Counsels with administration, colleagues, students and parents on a regular basis and provides progress reports as required or when needed;
    10. Develops and implements a discipline and behavior plan for the classes;
    11. Maintains confidentiality concerning student records and data;
    12. Fulfills professional development responsibilities as outlined by the district;
    13. Maintains and meet with program Advisory Committee twice a year;
    14. Meets and maintains degree, certificate, and training criteria as prescribed by local, state, and federal guidelines;
    15. Assume other professional duties and responsibilities as may be assigned by appropriate personnel.
    16. Prepare students for industry-recognized certifications such as CPR, First Aid, and Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA), if applicable
    17. Associate’s Degree in Health Science field from a regionally accredited college/university in area required
    18. Establish and maintain partnerships with local healthcare providers for clinical experiences and career exploration opportunities
    19. Promote workplace readiness skills, including professionalism, teamwork, and ethical decision-making
    20. Participate in professional development and stay informed on industry advancements and best practices
    21. Collaborate with colleagues, school administrators, and community stakeholders to enhance program offerings
      Work Environment:
    • Classroom, laboratory, and clinical settings
    • May require occasional travel for professional development or student clinical experiences
    TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 190 days. Salary to be determined by the salary schedule established by the Board.
     
    EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated annually by the director per state and district policy/guidelines.
