  •   Primary Purpose:
     
    To use individual and group guidance and problem-solving techniques to develop positive and supportive relationships with children; to encourage and teach positive social skills and interaction among children; to promote positive strategies of conflict resolution; and to develop personal self-control, self-motivation and self-esteem. Collaborate with parents, teachers, school/district staff, and community members to help students resolve personal, emotional, and social problems that interfere with their adjustment to school and their ability to enjoy the benefits of the educational process.
     
     Qualifications:
     
    Education/Certification:
    • Bachelor's degree in education, counseling, social work or related field from an accredited college or university       
    Special Knowledge/Skills:  
    • Experience selecting and implementing methods of behavior support and interventions appropriate for students with significant behavior issues
    • Knowledge of social skills instruction Strong collaboration skills for working with administrators, teachers, parents, and students
    • Knowledge of Positive Behavior Interventions & Supports (PBIS) methodology and process
    • Awareness and ability to access community resources
    • Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
    • Experience working with early childhood
     
    Experience:  
    • Minimum two years of experience in work related fields of social work, education, counseling, or in the community service sector     
    Performance Responsibilities and Duties:
    • Select and implement methods of behavior support and interventions appropriate for students with significant behavior issues.
    • Provide direct instruction and support in the teaching of social skills and teach responsible positive behavior to students with significant behavioral issues.
    • Provide in-class support for teachers and students
    • Perform casework service with parents to increase the parents' understanding, their constructive participation in resolving their child's problems, and their knowledge and use of available an appropriate resources, for the purpose of keeping students in school.
    • Serve as a liaison between student, home, school, and community resources. Access and work closely with community agencies to identify resources for students and their families.
    • Provide crisis intervention and preventive support as needed by students and their families.
    • Make home visits to gather information relating to students.
    • Consult with parents, teachers, and other school/district personnel to determine cause of student problems and effect solutions.
    • Arrange for medical, psychiatric, and other tests and examinations that may disclose causes of difficulties and indicate remedial measures.
    • Assist with drop-out recovery efforts working with the High School Completion, Attendance and Crisis Intervention Specialists.
    • Serve as consultant to school personnel regarding students or situations that are not referred for the direct district or outside services.
    • Assist in the planning and implementation of parent involvement activities.
    • Develop and conduct parenting training and support group.
    • Develop and maintain effective individual and group relationships with students and parents.
    • Compile, maintain, and file all physical and computerized reports, records, and other required documents.
    • Comply with policies established by federal and state laws, State Board of Education rule, and board policy.
    • Comply with all district and campus routines and regulations.
    • Participate in professional development activities to improve skills related to job assignment.
    • Effectively communicate with colleagues, students, and parents.
    • Maintain confidentiality.
     
    Supervisory Responsibilities:  None         
     
     Wage/Hour Status:  Exempt
     
    Pay Grade:  Administrative-Professional - 2
