    QUALIFICATIONS 
    1. High School Diploma or equivalent
    2. An Associate’s Degree or 60 college credits or State/Local ParaPro Assessment test required
    3. Previous experience working with youth preferred
    4. Knowledge, skill and or experience in the implementation of Positive Behavior Intervention Supports (PBIS) strategies or be willing to receive training in those strategies
    5. Ability to obtain CPR/First Aid Certification
    6. Ability to obtain a valid Arizona IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card
    7. Ability to participate in the District’s Medicaid program

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES 
    1. Knowledge of accepted behavior management techniques and practices working with persons with disabilities.
    2. Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing
    3. Ability to follow written and/or verbal instructions.
    4. Ability to demonstrate interpersonal and problem-solving skills to address challenges related to special education services.
    5. Ability to maintain accurate records and reports, to monitor students, work with and secure the cooperation of students.
    6. Knowledge of all basic first aid methods, including CPR.
    7. Knowledge of specialized equipment used in the aid of children with special needs.
    8. Ability to operate computer equipment for email communications, word processing, data management, and other assigned tasks as related to the position.
    9. Ability to apply common sense understanding to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of situations.
    10. Empathy, patience, and a genuine passion for working with students with disabilities.
    11. Ability to work cooperatively and courteously with staff, students, parents, and community members.
    12. Utilize, with fidelity, the District Positive Behavior Intervention Support (PBIS) program at the building level.
    13. Ability to understand and maintain students’ and parents’ rights to confidentiality and not violate those rights; nor discuss students in inappropriate places or with anyone not in direct contact with such individual students.
    14. Ensure information obtained through the course of duties associated with this position, is held in the highest of confidentiality.
    15. Perform all duties in accordance with Federal and State laws, district procedures, and Board policies; including mandatory reporting procedures.

    PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
    Under the supervision of the classroom teacher and building Administrator, assist in planning classroom activities and student learning for students with disabilities so they may reach their highest potential within the academic setting. 
    1. Assist in planning the day’s activity.
    2. Assist in identifying areas of need related to the program.
    3. Assist in the development, planning, and implementation of the program.
    4. Assist students in classroom activities to maximize inclusion and learning.
    5. Work one-on-one and in small groups with students on specific needs.
    6. Assist with classroom behavioral management to minimize disruptions, ensure a safe and orderly classroom, and ensure students are on task.
    7. Assist teacher in modifying student assignments as needed.
    8. May assist and train student in activities of daily living as needed, including diapering/toileting, feeding, hygiene, dressing, and mobility.
    9. Be knowledgeable of the basic course content for students; and, the educational goals and objectives.
    10. May perform medical tasks as assigned under the direction or instruction of licensed medical providers (nurses) including, but not limited to catheterizations, care of trachea tubes, gastric tube feeding, etc.
    11. Follow all applicable safety rules, procedures, and regulations governing the proper manner of assistance for all students.

    PHYSICAL DEMANDS
    The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions.
     
    While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to reach with hands and arms, sit, stand, walk, stoop, and bend as necessary for student learning and safety. The employee may lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects weighing a minimum of 50 to 75 pounds, frequently. May lift and assist students as necessary. The employee may lift and assist students as necessary and have manual dexterity to operate equipment necessary to fulfill the duties of this position. The employee will read correspondence and computer screens, and use the telephone.   
     
    WORK ENVIRONMENT
    Indoor school building and classroom environment and ability to work outdoors during outdoor student activities. The noise level in the work environment is generally moderate and may become excessively noisy at times. Will have contact with students, staff and the public.
     
    ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS
    The Paraprofessional reports to the Principal or Site Administrator. The Paraprofessional will interact cooperatively with all other staff positions.  All elements of good human relations will be practiced.

    TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT
                 INITIAL WAGE PLACEMENT PLAN: Starting at $14.85 Per Hour
                 WORK YEAR: 9 Months/6.6 hours per day
