QUALIFICATIONS: - Ability to obtain the National Federation of State High School Associations Level I Certification
- Successful completion of the NFHS course titled “Bullying, Hazing and Inappropriate Behaviors”
- Prior coachign experience
- Ability to obtain CPR/First Aid Certification
- Ability to obtain a valid Arizona IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card
- Valid Arizona Teaching Certificate or Arizona Coaching Certificate - optional
- Knowledge, skill and or experience in the implementation of Positive Behavior Intervention Supports (PBIS) strategies or be willing to receive training in those strategies as applicable.
- Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Governing Board may find appropriate and acceptable.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES - Utilize, with fidelity, the District Positive Behavior Intervention Support (PBIS) program at the building level.
- Ensure information obtained through the course of duties associated with this position is held in the highest of confidentiality.
- Perform all duties in accordance with Federal and State laws, district procedures and Board policies; including mandatory reporting procedures.
FUNCTION: To help each participating student achieve a high level of skill, an appreciation for the values of discipline and sportsmanship, and an increased level of self-esteem.
POSITION SUMMARY The high school head coach will work within the framework of the Arizona Interscholastic Association (AIA) to provide leadership in the ongoing development and improvement of student athletes in their sport through coordinating, planning, evaluation, and implementation of programs. All coaches have the responsibility of carrying on their respective sport within the best interest of Sierra Vista Unified School District and its students within the bounds of the rules set forth by the AIA and the National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS). The coach must demonstrate and apply leadership, integrity, responsibility, self-control, and knowledge of rules and regulations at all times. It is necessary and important that the coach act in a responsible and professional manner. The coach must set a good example and provide a healthy lifestyle.
GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES: - Applies knowledge of sport to develop players at all levels of ability
- Coaches individual participants in the skills necessary for excellent achievement in the sport involved.
- Select, train, and manage additional coaches in program
- Works with administrators, purchasing staff, and vendors to procure needed athletic equipment and supplies
- Maintains inventory of all sporting equipment and supplies
- Maintains necessary attendance forms, insurance records, and similar paperwork.
- Oversees the safety conditions of the facility or area in which assigned sport is conducted at all times that students are present.
- Enforces discipline and sportsmanlike behavior at all times and oversee penalties for breach of such standards by individual students.
- Follows all procurement and fundraising rules and procedures
- Encourages the highest standards of conduct and scholastic achievement among all athletes.
- Complies with district and school procedures
ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS:
The Varsity Coach reports to the Assistant Principal of Athletics/Activities. The Varsity Coach will interact cooperatively with all other staff positions. All elements of good human relations will be practiced.
