    JOB DESCRIPTION
     
    Position: Bookkeeper
     
    Primary Purpose: The Business Office Bookkeeper is responsible for employee benefits and accounts receivable in the Business Office.
     
    Qualifications:
    • Associate’s degree in accounting preferred.
    • Five years of bookkeeping experience.
    • Knowledge of Microsoft Office, specifically Word and Excel.
    • Must be able to operate a 10-key calculator by touch.
    • Ability to operate office machinery such as a scanner and copier.
    • Attention to detail.
    • A genuine willingness to accept other jobs/responsibilities as deemed necessary.
     Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
    • Demonstrate and engage in ethical behavior.
    • Maintain confidentiality.
    • Work cooperatively with colleagues, supervisors, and administrators.
    • Follow district policies and administrative rules and regulations.
    • Ability to work under pressure with constant interruptions.
    • Ability to coordinate with other departments.
    • Ability to meet deadlines.
    • Ability to learn general ledger account numbers and their meaning.
    • Work with departments and schools regarding cash procedures.
    • Process receipts and enter into accounting system timely.
    • Maintain activity accounts and submit balances to Principals and Sponsors monthly.
    • Work closely and cooperatively with Payroll and Human Resources to submit benefits paperwork accurately for employees.
    • Answer employee benefit questions.
    • Correspond with insurance companies.
    • Reconcile NMPSIA statement monthly.
    • Assist with employee leave software.
    • Crosstrain in payroll.  Be prepared to execute payroll with CFO supervision.
    • Assist with other tasks as deemed necessary by the Director of Finance.
    • Other duties as assigned by Supervisor. 
    Safety and Health:
    Knowledge of universal hygiene precautions.

    Equipment/Material Handled:
    Ability to work in a variety of environments including office settings, sports fields, and
    gymnasiums.
     
    Work Environment:
    Must be able to work within various degrees of noise, temperature, and air quality.  Job responsibilities require both inside and outside assignments.  Interruptions of work are routine.  Flexibility and patience are required. Must be self-motivated and able to complete job assignments without direct supervision. After-hours work may be required. May make a site or home visits when needed and appropriate. Must be able to work under stressful conditions.
    SALARY:    Employee Services Salary Schedule Level V, based on education and experience.
