Primary Purpose:
Ensure safe and orderly transportation of students on assigned route. Operate school bus that transports students and other authorized personnel to and from schools or other designated location.
Qualifications:
Education/Certification:
Valid Texas Commercial Driver’s License (Class B) with “S” and “P” Endorsement
Special Knowledge/Skills:
Must be 18 years of age or older
Must pass an annual physical examination
Ability to perform occasional physical labor
Must attend a 20-hour School Bus Driver Certification class and an eight hour Recertification class every three years
Must have an approved driving record
Must submit to Part 382 Controlled Substances and Alcohol Use and Testing
Ability to complete required bus driver safety training
Ability to follow written and verbal instructions
Ability to communicate effectively
Knowledge of student discipline procedure
Ability to manage student behavior

Major Responsibilities and Duties:
Vehicle Operation
- Drive all routes exactly as designated.
- Drive bus to and from extracurricular activities.
- Operate vehicle in a safe, efficient manner.
- Complete a written report and discuss with director, all accidents, vehicle damage, and student injury situations.
- Responsible for Pre and Post-trip inspection and signing off in folder when complete
- Communicate with the school, public, and students in such a manner as to encourage their cooperation and respect.
- Cooperate with supervisory staff in basic checkout and emergency procedures.
- Provide staff with reports as requested.
Student Management
- Maintain an up-to-date list of students riding his /her bus.
- Must document student behavior or infractions by submitting a referral on Bus Conduct program.
- Instruct students on safe riding rules and regulations.
Safety
- Observe all traffic laws and safety regulations for school buses.
- Complete a Bus Repair Order for all maintenance or repairs on vehicles.
- Report any hazardous conditions along the route.
- Maintain a clean and safe environment on his/her bus.
Other
- Operate two-way radio equipment to communicate with transportation office.
- Work irregular hours as needed.
- Attend In-Service training programs and annual driver workshop.
- Keep records on bus mileage, gas and oil consumption, and number of passengers transported.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

School bus, safety equipment (flares, reflective signs), fire extinguisher.

Maintain emotional control. Continual sitting, reaching, and repetitive hand and arm motions. Work outside and inside; moderate exposure to extreme temperature (hot) and vehicle fumes.
