    Salary Range: $64,983-$74,343


    Qualifications:
    • Master’s Degree with a major in counseling, psychology, education, or a related field.
    • Minimum of one year of experience in school counseling in grades 7-12.
    • Current and valid Pennsylvania certification in secondary counseling.
    • Knowledge of school district curriculum and college access requirements.
    • Computer skills in latest operating systems of Microsoft Windows and associated software.
    • Experience in teaching Mathematics or English preferred
    • Good communication skills.
    • Satisfactory work record & criminal/child abuse clearances (Acts 34, 114, and 151) as applicable.

    Summary
    The primary responsibility of the College and Career Counselors is to provide direct college and career services to the GEAR UP-3 cohort students and their families. This includes academic counseling, recommendations to additional programs and resources, career counseling and activities to determine what career a student might be interested in pursuing.  Helping a student identify a college that is a good fit for a career and the student while providing resources and support to help the student complete admissions documents are important duties of the position. Supporting the student by identifying and informing the student of various financial aid opportunities, helping parents complete the FAFSA, and performing other duties as required for the effective implementation of the GEAR UP Program are key responsibilities of this position. This is a grant funded position.



    Essential Duties and Responsibilities
     
    Counseling Duties
     
    • Provide academic and college and career counseling services to GEAR UP students
    • Provide career and college entrance information and assistance to students, teachers, parents and counselor’s in small groups and one-to-one and coordinate the day-to-day operations
    • Collaborate with College & Career Counselors to schedule college visits, college representative visits, career related speakers, workshops, etc.
    • In collaboration with GEAR UP lead counselors, plan, organize, develop and implement career events and publications: prepare letters, flyers, mailers and other materials to publicize GEAR UP Counseling services, resources, and speakers
    • Counsel cohort students regarding state and district tests and in preparing for college entrance exams
    • Provide financial aid counseling and FAFSA completion support
    • Provide support for students involved in mentoring, job shadowing and internship programs
     
     
     
     
     
      • Participates in the development of the annual action plan
      • Responsible for implementation of all career and counseling activities
      • Responsible for submitting all matching funds documents regarding career and counseling activities to the Lead Counselor/School District Liaison
      • Responsible for entering college and career program and student data weekly
      • Maintains appropriate, accurate and complete records
      • Provides monthly program updates to the school district Lead Counselor/Liaison
      • Responsible for sharing GEAR UP information with other GEAR UP school counselors
      • Participate in on-site evaluation visits
      • Participates in all GEAR UP training and professional development
      • Attend regional monthly GEAR UP staff meetings
      • Travel to school district monthly meetings
      • Attend the GEAR UP Capacity Building and Annual Conferences
      • Support tutoring as needed to support students
      • Performs other duties as required for the effective implementation of the GEAR UP Program as assigned by Superintendent or Designee
