Classification:  Staff
Schedule:  10 Month; (Part-Time)
Supervises: None
Reports to: Elementary Principal
FLSA Status:  Non-Exempt
 
General Description:   The Crossing Guard provides safe crossings in the carline area before and after school and models appropriate street skills and behavior for children.
 
Qualifications:
        1.    Be a born-again believer who demonstrates commitment to Christian education
        2.    Be in agreement with the Lakeland Christian School Statement of Faith and staff qualifications
        3.    A high school diploma or GED equivalent
        4.    Must be 18 years of age older.
        5.    Have people skills, use tact and grace in dealing with others and have a servant's heart.
       
 
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Choosing good times to step into roadway to create gaps in traffic for safe crossing.
2. Standing in the roadway with STOP paddle continuously raised to should height to show that pedestrians are using the crosswalk.  Stand for X amount of time.
3. Verbally directing children, parents and visitors across the roadway.
4. Recognizing and communicating potentially dangerous traffic situations and hazards in the environment.
5. Provide escort and assistance to children as necessary.
6. Fulfilling job requirements outdoors in all weather, including rain, fog, cold, heat, humidity and wind.
7. Perform all other duties as assigned.
 
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
1. Must possess a positive attitude and work well with others. 
2. Ability to exercise discretion and utmost professionalism in confidential & sensitive student/family maters.
3. Ability to communicate effectively, both verbal and written. 
    
 
Physical Demands:
 
1. Requires the mobility to stand, stoop, reach, run and bend.  Requires mobility of arms to reach.
2. Requires ability to stand for long periods.
3. Is subject to outside environmental conditions.
4. Mental acuity to perform the essential functions of this position.
