    ESPERERO CANYON MIDDLE SCHOOL
     PRINCIPAL
      
    Exempt, Administrative
    12 Months
    Salary:  Based on Experience (BOE)
     
    Definition: The Principal will coordinate administrative oversight and plan all phases of instructional leadership for the school including educational programming, administration, budgetary planning, discipline at Esperero Canyon Middle School.  Esperero Canyon is located at 5801 N. Sabino Canyon Road, Tucson, Arizona 85750. 

    Reports to: Superintendent
     
    Essential Functions: (Essential functions, as defined under the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include the following tasks, knowledge, skills and other characteristics.  This list is ILLUSTRATIVE ONLY, and is not a complete listing of all functions and tasks performed by positions in the job class.)
     
    Responsibilities:
    • Develops and oversees all administrative procedures.
    • Plans and implements comprehensive instructional programs in support of overall district goals and objectives.
    • Oversees educators in the school, providing observations and evaluations that are timely and constructive and completed based on the timetables set by the school district.
    • Provides guidance to teachers and assists in developing programs to integrate appropriate instructional strategies into classroom instruction that support academic content mastery.
    • Coordinates professional learning and guidance for faculty and staff to facilitate the continuous improvement process.  
    • Ensures a productive learning focused environment through continual collaboration with teachers, students, and parents.
    • Monitors student academic achievement and provides guidance and leadership on continual improvement of student learning and achievement.
    • Facilitates opportunities to connect with students by being visible and available to students.
    • Participates in parent meetings and conferences and acts as intermediary among parents, teachers, and students to deal with a variety of needs or issues.
    • Responds to concerns raised by parents, students, staff, and the general public.
    • Investigates student misconduct and determines appropriate prevention and discipline strategies.
    • Ensures completion of routine and required paperwork including attendance reports, test results, and licensing information for students, educators, staff, and school management. 
    • Plans, directs, supervises, and evaluates operational and facilities requirements to ensure availability of appropriate resources, equipment, supplies, and materials for efficient delivery of educational services and programs.
    • Interacts with various stakeholders to foster a positive relationship between the school and community including the Family Faculty Organization (FFO), Site Council, and district and/or community organizations.
    • Acts as liaison between the district and the school; communicates needs and information to both sides.
    • Collaborates with other principals and educators throughout the district to recommend changes in materials and strategies and assists in the development and implementation of new methods of instruction and program changes. 
    • Actively participates in a variety of school-based and district-wide committees, meetings, and conferences. 
    • Oversees, hires, and evaluates the performance of all faculty and staff.
    • Develops, monitors, implements and evaluates a site budget based on spending patterns and program needs, approving new programs and expenditures as appropriate.
    • Ensures that necessary maintenance and repairs to the school property are performed.
    • Performs other related duties as assigned.
     
    Minimum Required Qualifications:
    • Master’s degree in Education, Education Administration, or closely related field
    • Valid Arizona Administrative Certificate and current license to teach in the State of Arizona from the Arizona Department of Education
    • Five (5) years of teaching experience
    • Valid IVP fingerprint clearance card
    • Knowledge of school administration and education techniques and communication skills to effectively maintain working relationships

     Preferred Qualifications:
    • Experience as a middle school principal
