  •   Summary:

    This special education teacher is responsible for the IRR program, which addresses the unique needs of students with academic, emotional and behavioral disabilities.  The IRR program is part of a continuum, falling between resource programming and categorical programming.

    This special education teacher supports and instructs students who need a high level of support and instruction due to academic challenges and/or internalized and externalized behavior that impacts their success in school.  With a focus on positive reinforcement, this special education teacher supports student success in both educational and social situations.

    Serving as the case manager for students, the teacher will work collaboratively with special education colleagues to create appropriate learning opportunities for each student while scaffolding in inclusion opportunities as students show increasing success.

    Responsibilities:
    • Plan and deliver specialized instruction in academic core content areas and specific behavioral targets.
    • Utilize research-based behavior modification techniques to explicitly teach, model and reinforce appropriate behaviors.
    • Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of individual students.
    • Collaborate with general education teachers regarding inclusion opportunities for students.
    • Document and share student progress on goals and objectives, accommodations, and service time.
    • Collaborate with all service providers, general education teachers, and other staff in the development of annual Individual Education Programs (IEPs) and re-evaluations.
    • Participate in the development, implementation, and evaluation of individualized behavior support plans.
    • Lead and support classroom paraprofessionals.
    • Write measurable IEP goals and provide timely progress monitoring.
    • Comply with timelines, laws, and regulations as it relates to district, state, and federal policies and procedures.
    • Maintain consistent and timely contact with parents.
    •  Log and maintain monthly Medicaid reports.
    Qualifications:
    • Current Michigan teacher certification with a special education endorsement. 
    • Highly developed communication, organizational and problem-solving skills.
    • Flexibility in responding to a wide range of student academic and behavioral needs.
    • Certification in CPI, or willingness to be trained.

    25/26 School Year
