Summary: 
 
The Utility/ Custodial Worker will ensure district buildings, grounds and equipment are maintained in the best possible condition, providing a safe environment and a positive appearance for students, staff and community.

Responsibilities:
• Custodial coverage and daily building tasks as need.
• Moving and assembly of district furniture and equipment.
• Set-up and tear down of equipment.
• Interior and exterior painting.
• Mowing, trimming, edging, tree and leaf removal, trash and drains.
• Seasonal snow removal, salting and sanding - requests may fall outside of normal working hours.
• Possess a valid Michigan driver's license.
• Clean and maintain vehicle and work spaces.
• Occasionally run district errands and deliver items.
• Recycle items as needed.
• Works closely with maintenance/grounds team to assist with tasks as needed.
• All other duties as assigned by the Director of Facilities and office staff.
• Project a positive image for Zeeland Public Schools whenever you come into contact with the public, guests, or visitors on or off school property.

Qualifications:
• High school diploma/GED required.
• Applicant shall have the necessary knowledge, skills and experience to complete work in an efficient manner.  The person must have the flexibility to assist and support district staff as duties and assignments require.
• Ability to meet physical demands of position and be able to physically lift and move objects weighing up to 50 pounds, and occasionally other heavy physical labor.
• Ability to learn and operate a wide range of custodial equipment, power tools, trucks, and snow removal equipment used by the district.
• Ability to effectively communicate, accept and learn new processes, technologies, and techniques.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others, including maintenance, custodial, grounds and school staff to accomplish necessary tasks.
Schedule: 
Monday through Friday
8 hours per day  
7:00 am to 3:30 pm 
Full year

Compensation: 
Level II:  $18.34 - $21.44 per hour
Full family insurance
Vacation, personal days, and sick time

Summary:

The Lead Night Custodian will supervise and direct the second shift custodial crew to ensure proper cleaning of the school building.  S/he will also overlook building security and strive to provide a clean, safe environment of support the educational process.  It also requires supervision of the usage of facilities by school, recreation, and community.

Responsibilities:
• Prioritize nightly tasks and communicate with employees, staff, and public.
• Direct and monitor full-time and/or part-time custodial staff and evaluate performance.
• Clean all areas as assigned.
• Check all areas for cleanliness to maintain a safe environment for students and staff.
• Maintain cleanliness of personal work areas and storage closets.
• Assist custodial staff with tasks as necessary.
• Assist with set-ups and facility requests for school events or rentals.
• Watch energy consumption; turning off lights and equipment when not in use; reporting items not complying with the energy policy.
• Perform snow removal and salt areas at entrances as needed.
• Perform minor maintenance tasks, repairs to furniture and equipment as needed.
• Moving items as needed – furniture, supplies, tables, etc.
• Follow safety procedures and report safety hazards.
• Maintain security in building and secure when leaving for the day/evening.
• Perform work assignments as directed by supervisors.
 
 Qualifications:
• High school diploma required; college or trade school classes preferred; related work experience necessary.
• Must have good communications and interpersonal skills to establish effective relationships with all (students, employees, staff, public, contractors).
• The ability to resolve issues and conflicts that arise.
• The ability to prioritize and address daily activities.
• Must have high standards for cleaning and safety as a priority.
• The ability to view/understand the HVAC computer program.
• The ability to view FMX for facility scheduling and maintenance work orders.
• Ability to do minor maintenance, operate power tools, and needed equipment.
