Purpose Statement

The job of Teacher is done for the purpose/s of providing support to the instructional process by serving as a teacher with specific responsibility for supervising students within the classroom and other assigned areas; developing lesson plans and delivering group and individual student instruction within established curriculum guidelines; collaborating with other teachers, other professional staff, and administrators in addressing instructional and/or classroom issues; and responding to a wide range of inquiries from students' parents or guardians regarding instructional program and student progress.

Essential Functions
 
• Adapts classroom work for the purpose of providing students with instructional materials that address individualized learning plans within established lesson plans.
• Administers developmental testing programs, subject specific assessments, etc. (e.g. DIBELS, AZELLA, GALILEO, Eureka Math, etc.) for the purpose of assessing student competency levels and/or developing individual learning plans.
• Advises parents and/or legal guardians of student progress (e.g. progress reports, report cards, phone calls, behavioral plans, etc.) for the purpose of communicating expectations; student's achievements; developing methods for improvement and/or reinforcing classroom goals in the home environment.
• Assesses student progress towards objectives, expectations, and/or goals for the purpose of providing feedback to students, parents and administration.
• Collaborates with instructional staff, other school personnel, parents and a variety of community resources for the purpose of improving the overall quality of student outcomes, achieving established classroom objectives in support of the school improvement plan.
• Coordinates a variety of activities (e.g. field trips, lesson plans, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring the availability of equipment, materials and personnel to achieve objectives.
• Counsels students (e.g. Essential 8, High Five, homeroom, etc.) for the purpose of improving performance, health status, problem solving techniques and a variety of personal issues.
• Demonstrates methods required to perform classroom and/or subject specific assignments for the purpose of providing an effective program that addresses individual student requirements.
• Directs paraprofessionals, student teachers, volunteers and/or student workers for the purpose of providing an effective classroom program and addressing the needs of individual students.
• Implements academic, behavior, health and nutrition plans (e.g. literacy activities, stories, songs, math/science activities, 504 goals, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements, established guidelines, and performance standards and encouraging parent involvement.
• Instructs students for the purpose of improving their success in academic, interpersonal and daily living skills through a defined course of study.
• Manages student behavior in a variety of educational environments (e.g. classroom, playground, field trips, hallways, cafeteria, etc.) for the purpose of providing a safe and positive learning environment.
• Models conversation, manners, clean up activities, listening, and everyday interactions for the purpose of demonstrating appropriate social behavior in a culturally sensitive manner.
• Participates in a variety of meetings (e.g. Promethean board training, Building Safety committee, Data meetings, 504 and IEP meetings, etc.) for the purpose of conveying and/or gathering information required to perform functions.
• Prepares a variety of written and electronic materials (e.g. grades, attendance, anecdotal records, progress reports, emails, website, etc.) for the purpose of documenting student progress and meeting mandated requirements.
• Reports incidents (e.g. fights, suspected child abuse, suspected substance abuse, etc.) for the purpose of maintaining personal safety of students, providing a positive learning environment and adhering to Education Code and school policies.
• Responds to inquires from a variety of sources (e.g. other teachers, parents, administrators, etc.) for the purpose of resolving issues, providing information and/or direction.

Essential Functions
• Adapts classroom activities, assignments and/or materials under the direction of the supervising teacher for the purpose of supporting and reinforcing classroom objectives.

• Assists medically fragile or physically disabled students for the purpose of maintaining students' personal hygiene.
• Attends meetings and in-service presentations (e.g. first aid, CPR, emergency procedures, crisis prevention/ intervention, professional development, etc.) for the purpose of acquiring and/or conveying information relative to job functions.
• Communicates with supervising instructional staff, professional support personnel, and parents (e.g. interpreting, home visits, etc.) for the purpose of assisting in evaluating progress and/or implementing IEP objectives.
• Documents student's daily activities (e.g. behavior, completed assignments, on/off task times, etc.) for the purpose of completing daily logs and student's hourly activities.
• Evaluates situations involving other staff, students, parents, the public, etc. for the purpose of taking action and/or providing referral for resolution.
• Implements under the supervision of assigned teacher, behavioral plans designed by IEP team for students with behavior disorders or other special conditions for the purpose of presenting and/or reinforcing learning concepts.
• Maintains instructional materials and/or manual and electronic files/records for the purpose of ensuring availability of items; providing written reference; and/or meeting mandated requirements.
• Models conversation, manners, clean up activities, listening, and everyday interactions for the purpose of demonstrating appropriate social behavior in a culturally sensitive manner.
• Monitors student's daily schedule and behavior plan (e.g. class schedule, toileting, medication, appetite, etc.) for the purpose of maintaining a safe and positive learning environment.
• Monitors students during assigned periods within a variety of school environments (e.g. rest rooms, playgrounds, hallways, bus loading zones, cafeteria, parking lots, etc.) for the purpose of maintaining a safe and positive learning environment.
• Provides. under the supervision of assigned teacher, instruction to students in a variety of individual and group activities (e.g. academic subjects, reading, writing, behavioral skills, verbal skills, social skills, daily living skills, etc.) for the purpose of reinforcing instructional objectives; implementing IEP plans; and ensuring students success in school.
• Remains with student at all times for the purpose of providing for the safety of student, removing student when necessary and de-escalating situations outside the classroom.
• Responds to emergency situations for the purpose of resolving immediate safety concerns.

• Performs other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.

SKILLS are required to perform multiple tasks with a need to occasionally upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions. KNOWLEDGE is required to perform basic math, including calculations using fractions, percents, and/or ratios; read a variety of manuals, write documents following prescribed formats, and/or present information to others; and understand complex, multi-step written and oral instructions.  Specific knowledge based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: instructional procedures and practices; age appropriate student activities; safety practices and procedures; conflict resolution; and stages of child development/ behavior; Associate degree preferred and/or passing score on an ADE-approved assessment.

Working Environment
The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: significant lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling, some climbing and balancing, frequent stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally the job requires 20% sitting, 40% walking, and 40% standing.  The job is performed under minimal temperature variations and under conditions with exposure to risk of injury and/or illness.

Purpose Statement

The job of Teacher - ESS (Exceptional Student Services) is done for the purpose/s of providing support to the instructional process by serving as a teacher with specific responsibility for developing special education students' success in academics, interpersonal skills and activities of daily living; supervising students within the classroom and other assigned areas; developing lesson plans and delivering group and individual student instruction within established curriculum guidelines; collaborating with other teachers, other professional staff, and administrators in addressing instructional and/or classroom issues; and responding to a wide range of inquiries from students' parents or guardians regarding instructional program and student progress.

• Administers developmental testing programs, subject specific assessments, etc. (e.g. Brigance, Woodcock Johnson, DIBELS, AZELLA, etc.) for the purpose of assessing student competency levels and/or developing individual learning plans.
• Administers, under supervision, first aid and assistance to medically fragile children (e.g. tube feeding, toileting, diapering, etc.) for the purpose of providing appropriate care for children as assigned.
• Advises parents and/or legal guardians of student progress (e.g. IEP updates, progress reports, report cards, behavioral plans, etc.) for the purpose of communicating expectations; student's achievements; developing methods for improving and/or reinforcing classroom goals in the home environment.
• Assesses student progress towards objectives, expectations, and/or goals (e.g. behavioral, motor development and communication skills, academic needs, vocational abilities, etc.) for the purpose of providing feedback to students, parents and administration.
• Assists in developing procedures and training materials for district staff involved with students with one or more handicapping conditions for the purpose of enhancing programs for students and ensuring that program operations are in compliance with established guidelines.
• Collaborates with instructional staff, other school personnel, parents and a variety of community resources for the purpose of ensuring the provision of special education services in accordance with students' IEP in the LRE and in accordance with school district, state and federal requirements.
• Counsels students for the purpose of improving performance, daily living skills, health status, problem solving techniques and a variety of personal issues.
• Demonstrates methods required to perform classroom and/or subject specific assignments and personal daily living skills for the purpose of providing an effective program that addressing individual student requirements.
• Directs paraprofessionals, student teachers, co- teachers, volunteers and/or student workers for the purpose of providing an effective classroom program and addressing the needs of individual students.
• Implements academic, behavior, health and nutrition plans (e.g. literacy activities, stories, songs, math/science activities, IEP objectives, etc.) for the purpose of improving their success in academic, interpersonal and daily living skills through a defined course of study and ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements.
• Instructs students for the purpose of improving their success in academic, interpersonal and daily living skills through a defined course of study.
• Manages student behavior in a variety of educational environments (e.g. classroom, playground, field trips, hallways, cafeteria, etc.) for the purpose of providing a safe and positive learning environment.

Purpose Statement

The job of Teacher is done for the purpose/s of providing support to the instructional process by serving as a teacher with specific responsibility for supervising students within the classroom and other assigned areas; developing lesson plans and delivering group and individual student instruction within established curriculum guidelines; collaborating with other teachers, other professional staff, and administrators in addressing instructional and/or classroom issues; and responding to a wide range of inquiries from students' parents or guardians regarding instructional program and student progress.

Essential Functions
• Adapts classroom work for the purpose of providing students with instructional materials that address individualized learning plans within established lesson plans.
• Administers developmental testing programs, subject specific assessments, etc. (e.g. DIBELS, AZELLA, GALILEO, Eureka Math, etc.) for the purpose of assessing student competency levels and/or developing individual learning plans.
• Advises parents and/or legal guardians of student progress (e.g. progress reports, report cards, phone calls, behavioral plans, etc.) for the purpose of communicating expectations; student's achievements; developing methods for improvement and/or reinforcing classroom goals in the home environment.
• Assesses student progress towards objectives, expectations, and/or goals for the purpose of providing feedback to students, parents and administration.
• Collaborates with instructional staff, other school personnel, parents and a variety of community resources for the purpose of improving the overall quality of student outcomes, achieving established classroom objectives in support of the school improvement plan.
• Coordinates a variety of activities (e.g. field trips, lesson plans, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring the availability of equipment, materials and personnel to achieve objectives.
• Counsels students (e.g. Essential 8, High Five, homeroom, etc.) for the purpose of improving performance, health status, problem solving techniques and a variety of personal issues.
• Demonstrates methods required to perform classroom and/or subject specific assignments for the purpose of providing an effective program that addresses individual student requirements.
• Directs paraprofessionals, student teachers, volunteers and/or student workers for the purpose of providing an effective classroom program and addressing the needs of individual students.
• Implements academic, behavior, health and nutrition plans (e.g. literacy activities, stories, songs, math/science activities, 504 goals, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements, established guidelines, and performance standards and encouraging parent involvement.
• Instructs students for the purpose of improving their success in academic, interpersonal and daily living skills through a defined course of study.
• Manages student behavior in a variety of educational environments (e.g. classroom, playground, field trips, hallways, cafeteria, etc.) for the purpose of providing a safe and positive learning environment.
• Models conversation, manners, clean up activities, listening, and everyday interactions for the purpose of demonstrating appropriate social behavior in a culturally sensitive manner.
• Participates in a variety of meetings (e.g. Promethean board training, Building Safety committee, Data meetings, 504 and IEP meetings, etc.) for the purpose of conveying and/or gathering information required to perform functions.
• Prepares a variety of written and electronic materials (e.g. grades, attendance, anecdotal records, progress reports, emails, website, etc.) for the purpose of documenting student progress and meeting mandated requirements.
• Reports incidents (e.g. fights, suspected child abuse, suspected substance abuse, etc.) for the purpose of maintaining personal safety of students, providing a positive learning environment and adhering to Education Code and school policies.
• Responds to inquires from a variety of sources (e.g. other teachers, parents, administrators, etc.) for the purpose of resolving issues, providing information and/or direction.
