  •   Salary: Compensation to commensurate with experience - $48,398.00 (maximum/base)
     Opening: As soon as possible; after successful clearance of fingerprinting (fee at applicant's expense)
     Hours:  P.M. shift – 2:30 P.M. – 11:00 P.M.; Monday - Friday / full-time with benefits & night diff.
     Location:    TBD

    GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES: Performs routine cleaning duties; does related work as required.

    DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS: Under supervision, performs manual work involved in cleaning and caring for public school buildings, offices, adjacent yards and sidewalks. The work of a Cleaner is distinguished from caretaker in that a person in this position is not required to perform handyman repairs or care for furnaces.

    EXAMPLES OF WORK: (Illustrative Only)
    Mops and/or sweeps floors, corridors, and stairs;
    Cleans lavatories, when applicable;
    Dusts desks, chairs, tables, bookshelves, filing cabinets, Empties trash receptacles;
    Waxes furniture and floors, Washes windows, walls, and partitions;
    Vacuum floors, rugs and carpets, Moves furniture;
    Mows lawns, May shovel snow, clean sidewalks, yards, and driveways.

    REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ATTRIBUTES:
    Familiarity with building/structure cleaning practices, supplies, and equipment; ability to use building cleaning supplies and equipment; ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions; willingness to perform manual tasks; thoroughness; dependability; honesty; physical condition commensurate with the duties of the position.

    MINIMUM ACCEPTABLE TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:
    Ability to read, write and understand English and preferably some cleaning experience.

    SPECIAL REQUIREMENT FOR APPOINTMENT IN SCHOOL DISTRICTS: In accordance with the Safe Schools Against Violence in Education (SAVE) legislation, Chapter 180 of the Laws of 2000, and by the Regulations of the Commissioner of Education, candidates for appointment in school districts must obtain clearance for employment from the State Education Department prior to employment based upon a fingerprint and criminal history background check.
