CERTIFICATION/QUALIFICATIONS:
• High School diploma or equivalent, pursuant to WV Code §18A-2-5;
• Meet the definition of “Qualifications" in WV Code §18A-4-8b; demonstrated competency, pursuant to WV Code §18A-4-8e (state-approved competency test), as required;NOTE: Only Applicants who take and pass the state Aide test can have their applications considered for hire by BSC. If NO BCS employees who hold this classification apply for this job, you will receive email notification when tests are scheduled. • Criminal background check conducted pursuant to WV Code §18-5-15c and/or §18A-3-10, as appropriate;
 
·Must hold one of the following certificates issued by the WVDE as defined in §18A-4-8: 
 
• “Aide I” means a person selected and trained for a teacher-aide classification such as monitor aide, clerical aide, classroom aide or general aide);
• “Aide II” means a service person referred in the “Aide I” classification who has completed a training program approved by the State Board, or who holds a high school diploma or has received a General Educational Development certificate. Only a person classified in an Aide II class title may be employed as an aide in any special education program;
• “Aide III” means a service person referred to in the “Aide I” classification who holds a high school diploma or a General Educational Development certificate; and (a) has completed six semester hours of college credit at an institution of high education; or (b) is employed as an aide in a special education program and has one year’s experience as an aide in special education;
• “Aide IV” means a service person referred to in the “Aide I” classification who holds a high school diploma or a General Educational Development certificate; and (a) has completed eighteen hours of State Board-approved college credit at a regionally accredited institution of higher education, or (b) has completed fifteen hours of State Board-approved college credit at a regionally accredited institution of higher education; and has successfully completed an in-service training program determined by the State Board to be the equivalent of three hours of college credit;
• “Early Childhood Classroom Assistant Teacher – I” means a person who does not possess the minimum requirements determined by the State Board of Education for the state-awarded certificate for early childhood classroom assistant teachers but is enrolled in and pursuing requirements.
• “Early Childhood Classroom Assistant Teacher – II” means a person who has completed the minimum requirements determined by the State Board of Education for a state-awarded certificate for early childhood classroom assistant teachers.
• “Early Childhood Classroom Assistant Teacher – III” means a person who has completed the minimum requirements determined by the State Board of Education for a state-awarded certificate for early childhood classroom assistant teacher, as well as additional requirements comparable to current paraprofessional certificate.
 Job Summary:

Personnel selected and trained for teacher-aide classifications working in a Kindergarten program (which includes prekindergarten), First, Second, or Third Grade Classroom, and meet the Early Childhood Classroom Assistant Teacher minimum requirements for either Permanent Authorization, Temporary Authorization or Paraprofessional.
 
The employee shall remain free of any alcohol or non-prescribed drugs while in the workplace. Alcohol and controlled substances which affect employee productivity, safety or judgment in the workplace will not be tolerated.        

Staff members serve as role models for students in how to conduct themselves as citizens and as responsible, intelligent human beings. 
 
Staff members are expected to refrain from bullying, harassment, intimidation, and discrimination.
 
 Performance Responsibilities:  
• To provide individual or small group instruction under the supervision of the teacher.
• To participate in comprehensive training and implementation of key practices in literacy and numeracy driven by the Third Grade Success Act under the supervision of the teacher (For Grades 1-3)
• To provide students with individualized attention.
•  To assist in grading assignments and recording grades.
• To set up and operate equipment for instruction.
• To assist with preparing materials for instruction.
• To assist the teacher with escorting students to and from the bus.
• To provide library assistance to students.
• To assist with the preparation of snacks for students as needed.
• To assist and supervise special needs students in the regular classroom setting.
• To assist in maintaining an inventory of classroom materials and supplies.
• To assist in the modification of materials and instructional activities for special needs students in the regular classroom.
• To assist in the implementation of accommodations for special needs students in the regular classroom.
• To practice good safety habits.
•  To perform clerical duties such as filing and data entry for classroom purposes.
• To be aware of medications administered to students.
• To maintain confidentiality of students’ records.
• Mau be required to ride bus.
• Demonstrates the ability to plan and prioritize his/her daily activities and anticipate job responsibilities that need to be performed;
• Operates the office efficiently in the absence of the supervisor(s);
• Completes tasks efficiently and accurately with minimal supervision;
• Instill in students the belief and practice of ethical principles and democratic values.
• Performs other related tasks as assigned by the principal or superintendent of schools.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stoop, reach, stand, walk, lift, pull, push, grasp, talk, hear, see, and use repetitive motions. While performing the duties of this job, the employee may frequently lift and/or move at least one hundred vertically (100) pounds of materials, children, etc. For Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision such as to read handwritten or typed material and the ability to adjust focus.
 
The position requires the individual to meet multiple demands from several people and interact with the public and other staff members.
