  •   Position Overview

    The Assistant Superintendent of Teaching and Learning serves as the Chief Academic Officer for the Westport Public Schools. This pivotal leadership role ensures the excellence and alignment of preK-12 curriculum, instruction, and assessment while fostering a culture of continuous improvement and innovation for both students and staff.
    The Assistant Superintendent of Teaching and Learning leads with a commitment to equity, collaboration, and evidence-based practices, and directly supports the district's vision to prepare all students for success in a rapidly changing global society.
    Key Responsibilities:
    1. Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment:
      • Lead the development, implementation, and ongoing refinement of a coherent and comprehensive preK-12 curriculum.
      • Establish and maintain a systematic process for curriculum writing, revision, and alignment with state and national standards.
      • Ensure the effective integration of research-based instructional practices to enhance student learning outcomes.
      • Design and oversee balanced assessment systems, including formative and summative measures, to monitor and improve student achievement.
      • Design and deliver high-quality professional learning opportunities tailored to the needs of educators and aligned with district priorities.
     
    1. Leadership and Capacity Building:
      • Provide visionary leadership and strategic direction to curriculum coordinators and instructional leaders across the district.
      • Supervise curriculum coordinators and collaborate with other members of the central office team in providing supervision and feedback for all administrators.
      • Cultivate a culture of collaboration, trust, and shared leadership that empowers teachers and administrators to innovate and grow.
     
    1. Resource Management and Planning:
      • Oversee and allocate financial, human, and material resources to achieve district goals and priorities.
      • Collaborate with district leadership to align budgetary decisions with instructional and programmatic needs.
     
    1. Collaboration and Communication:
      • Maintain clear, consistent, and transparent communication with all stakeholders regarding instructional programs, goals, and outcomes.
      • Represent the district in local, state, and national educational forums to advocate for best practices and continuous improvement.
     
    1. Data-Driven Decision-Making:
      • Use data and evidence to drive instructional decisions, assess program effectiveness, and promote accountability.
      • Ensure the development and dissemination of data reports that inform teaching practices and guide system-wide improvements.

    Salary:                                    The position comes with a competitive compensation package that is commensurate with the candidate's experience and credentials.
