    Position: Curriculum and Instruction Leader - K-12 Visual and Performing Arts (1.0 FTE)

     

    Location: District-wide

     

    Job Goal: To lead and support high-quality, standards-aligned instruction across the district in the Visual and Performing Arts (VPA) through curriculum development, instructional coaching, and resource management; and to facilitate the district’s co-curricular theater program, through participation in the selection of production staff and management of the auditorium space to ensure it safely supports student performance needs.

     

    Qualifications Required:

     
    • Holds valid Connecticut certificate in endorsement area(s) #042, #049, or #485 

    • A minimum of five years of successful teaching experience in the arts

    • Demonstrated leadership in instruction and curriculum development rooted in the National Core Arts Standards

    • Ability to transfer current research findings into practice 

    • Outstanding communication and organizational skills

    • Experience in working effectively with teachers, administrators, parents, and community groups 

    • Knowledge of instructional technology, equipment, and resources to support arts education

    • Ability to contribute to operational management, including budgeting, resource planning, and facility and equipment maintenance

    • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Assistant Superintendent may find appropriate

     

    Performance Responsibilities:

     
    • Create an articulated coaching schedule, in collaboration with school leaders

    • Provide job-embedded professional development and coaching to support the implementation and articulation of the district curriculum, resulting in coherent and standards-aligned instruction

    • Guide the development and revision of standards-based curriculum in the fine and performing arts that cultivates creativity, fosters presentation skills, develops capacity for analytical thinking, and deepens understanding and appreciation of the arts in historical, cultural, and societal contexts

    • Research and select new curriculum resources and materials as requested by the Assistant Superintendent

    • Support the application of high-impact instructional practices that engage all learners

    • Facilitate the selection of instructional resources and materials aligned with curricular goals

    • Play an active role on the Instructional Leadership Team to support the goals and objectives outlined in the School Improvement Plans 

    • Attend regular professional learning workshops with the district team

    • Plan for and deliver professional development to staff

    • Plan for and facilitate K-12 department meetings

    • Coordinate district-wide arts educational activities and events, such as Art Jam, Music in Our Schools, and theater productions

    • Coordinate co-curricular theater programming, including production schedules, student participation, and instructional integration

    • Collaborate with Operations and Maintenance staff to plan for the maintenance of facilities and equipment in the arts, including instruments, kilns, and performance spaces

    • Support principals in developing budgets for instructional supplies and equipment

    • Advise school leaders and counselors in master and student scheduling

    • Assist the Human Resources Department in identifying qualified candidates for vacancies in art, music, and theater

    • Develop and make presentations to the Board of Education and parent groups as requested by the Assistant Superintendent

    • Other duties assigned by the Assistant Superintendent related to the overall duties and responsibilities of the position

     

    Salary & Benefits: Per the Weston Teachers' Association contract

     

    Work Year: 191 days (187 days during the school year plus four additional days)

     

    Reports to: Assistant Superintendent

     

    Evaluation: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with the provisions of the Weston Educator and Leader Growth and Evaluation Plan and Board of Education policy
