    Title:  Facilities 1
     
    PRIMARY PURPOSE:  The purpose of this position is to lead and perform cleaning and facilities support duties in assigned areas to assure clean, safe, and sanitary conditions of school property.  Checks security of building through shift and secures doors, gates, and windows. Performs interior building cleaning and outside grounds clean-up as a primary function of the job.  
     
    DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
     
    • Safety is your number one concern.
    • Represents this position and the Facilities Department with positive and professional job performance and behavior. Uses established communication procedures with assigned supervisor.
    • Relates with students, teachers, public, and administrators with professionalism and confidentiality.
    • Maintains assigned areas of responsibility in a clean and sanitary condition.
    • Helps set up, clean and fold tables for cafeteria use and special meetings or events.
    • Sweeps, mops, strips, and burnishes floors; vacuums and spot cleans carpets; empties wastebaskets into dumpsters; cleans and empties interior and exterior trash cans; dusts and cleans surfaces, walls, cabinets, furniture, fixtures, etc.; cleans and sanitizes rest rooms including toilets, stalls, and dispensers; restocks supplies as needed daily.
    • Reports failed lighting.
    • Reports maintenance needs to immediate supervisor.
    • Performs light maintenance to assist in securing buildings.
    • Washes windows and mirrors; sweeps sidewalks, stairs, and areas outside of building.
    • Sets up tables and chairs; moves packages and expedites deliveries in building.
    • Assures security of assigned areas and reports unusual occurrences to the Facilities Supervisor, Building Administration, or SRO as appropriate.
    • Reports building and equipment conditions and failures requiring repair or preventive maintenance to Supervisor.
    • Maintains custodial supply rooms and equipment in a clean and orderly manner.
    • Assists in monitoring and set-ups for community use activities.
    • Maintains building in a secure state at all times.
    • Moves supplies, furniture, and equipment as requested.
    • Maintains inventory of cleaning and restroom supplies.
    • Replaces the Facilities Assistant 2 during absences if required and performs the required duties of the position.
     
    • Police, clean, and remove trash or debris from exterior entries and grounds daily.
     
    WORKING CONDITIONS:  The daily work is performed both inside and outside the buildings and requires the use of ladders, machines, and equipment, such as scrubbers/buffers, wet-vacs, extractor, and related equipment.  The work requires walking between two and six miles a day and working on slippery surfaces at various times of the years.  The work is of a manual nature and requires the ability to walk, bend, stoop, crouch, climb, stand for long periods, twist, reach, push and pull, use far and near visual acuity, and lift weights from ten to fifty or more pounds to shoulder height.  Weights over fifty pounds are lifted with proper safety equipment.  Vacuuming requires the use of a backpack vacuum weighing eleven pounds when empty and sixteen pounds when full.  The work exposes the employee to cleaning chemicals, fumes, and dust.  Work requires adherence to established dress guidelines, which includes provisions for safety.  Some positions may perform work on a graveyard shift.  An employee may be required to work other shifts on short notice.  All positions are required to work a day shift or modified shift to support team cleaning and resource conservation measures during non-school cleaning periods.  Regular attendance is required.
     
     
     
     
    REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: 
    • Applicant must hold high school diploma or equivalent.
    • Applicant must be eighteen (18) years of age or older.
    • Must possess a valid driver’s license and the ability to safely operate a motor vehicle.
    • Must have legal authorization to work in the United States of America.
    • Graduation from high school (or equivalent) and some building custodian experience; or any equivalent combination of experience and training that would provide the applicant with the desired knowledge, skills, and abilities required to perform the work.
     PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
    • Knowledge of general cleaning and maintenance of buildings including spot cleaning carpets, mopping and finishing floors, and sanitizing kitchen and restrooms.
    • Knowledge of and ability to use commercial janitorial machines and power equipment, and chemicals used in cleaning.
    • Ability to clean building according to established standards of sanitation.
    • Ability to maintain effective working relationships with other employees and students.
     
      PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT:
    While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, and have the manual dexterity to manipulate objects, tools, or controls.  The employee frequently must squat, stoop or kneel, climb, reach above the head and reach forward, bend or twist at the neck and trunk, and pull/push heavy equipment and furniture.  The employee must frequently lift, carry and /or move up to 50 pounds.  Occasionally the employee must lift and/or move up to 100 pounds.
     
    TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:  This position shall be considered in all respects “employment at will”.  The terms and descriptions set forth in this job description shall not create a property right in the employment and such are set forth only to advise the employee of when and what types of services will be required by the District so long as employment continues.
    An employee working in this position shall at all times be subject to the direction of the supervisor to whom said employee has primary responsibility or said person’s designee(s) and at all times shall be subject to the rules, regulations and policies of the District as promulgated by the Board of Trustees.  Each employee shall be held responsible for having knowledge of said school district rules, regulations, and policies which have been reduced to writing and made available to the employee at the building administrator’s office and the district-wide administration office.
     
    EVALUATION:  Performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy.
