Who We Are:
Waukegan Community Unit School District No. 60 serves nearly 15,500 students in preschool through grade 12 and is located halfway between Chicago, Illinois and Milwaukee, Wisconsin on the shores of Lake Michigan. The District has 1 early learning center, 15 elementary schools, five middle schools and a high school program divided between two 9^th – 12^th grade campuses. The District encompasses portions of Waukegan, Beach Park and Park City.

What We Need:
The School Psychologist will be directly responsible to the Coordinator of School Psychology and the Special Education Director of Programs and Services.

Responsibilities: 
 
1. Identify children with educational, social, and emotional problems who need special help;
2. Serve as a consultant to administrators, classroom teachers, parents, and other school personnel on matters related to the adjustment and educational problems of individual children and groups of pupils;
3. Serve as a consultant to teachers and administrators;
4. Give direct services to children and their parents;
5. Promote an educational climate that is in harmony with the educational, social, and psychological needs of children. 
 
Specific Duties: 
 
1. Educate school personnel about the role and functions of a School Psychologist;
2. Serve as a consultant to administrators, classroom teachers, and other school personnel on matters related to the adjustment and educational problems of individual children and groups of pupils;
3. Educate school personnel to identify and refer children who need school psychological services;
4. Conduct preliminary and comprehensive psycho-educational studies to appraise the social, emotional, behavioral, and educational status and needs of children referred for school psychological services or for additional supports, such as a 1:1 paraprofessional, which may require an observation form to be completed;
5. Make recommendations to school personnel pertaining to:  the management of pupils in the school environment; educational adjustments to meet the needs of children (levels of instruction, methods, materials, remedial services, etc.); and placement of exceptional children in special education classes and programs;
6. Assess and communicate the results of psycho-educational diagnosis to school personnel and parents through conferences, staffing, and written reports;
7. Facilitate all initial and re-evaluation IEP meetings (with the exception of Speech and Language – Only and OT/PT);
8. Attend annual meetings in which a change of placement (more restrictive), in district or out-of-district, is being considered;
9. Create "save as" documents for IEP amendments;
10. "Unfinalize" IEPs upon the request of a case manager in order to make modifications;
11. Assume the role of LEA Representative upon request of the Principal for initial and re-evaluation IEP meetings;
12. Provide follow-up services to determine to what extent recommendations have been implemented as well as to appraise the efficacy of recommended changes;
13. Participate in in-service programs, formal and informal, to help school personnel; (a) recognize the needs and problems that children experience; and (b) deal appropriately with the needs and problems of individual children and groups of children;
14. Work with parents to help them understand the needs and problems of their children and manage their behavior in a constructive manner;
15. Participate in efforts to improve the mental health climate of the schools, and contribute to the solution of psycho-social-educational problems such as drug usage, truancy, racial conflict, suicide, depression, anxiety, drop-outs, social skills, etc.;
16. Function as a  member of building level RTI teams, grade level teams, and individual problem solving teams in order to contribute to a multidisciplinary approach to pupil management;
17. Participate in research projects that pertain to the learning and adjustment of pupils;
18. Participate in public relations activities in order to promote the acceptance, support, and use of school psychological services;
19. Maintain lines of communication with various outside agencies that provide child and family services and make appropriate referrals;
20. Provide support, instruction, technical assistance, and ongoing monitoring of progress toward measurable, identified goals for students at individual, group, or systems level;
21. Providing support, training, and technical assistance during the data analysis and progress monitoring process for staff and parents;
22. Serving as a consultation leader in the building during the RTI process;
23. Providing consultation on legal and ethical concerns that arise in the building during the RTI and special education process;
24. Providing consultation and developing prevention programs that are consistent with the RTI academic and behavior model;
25. Involvement in data analysis and evaluation, using data outcomes for implementing plans at an individual, group, or systems level;
26. Observe, consult, assess, and give feedback on the fidelity of classroom instruction and intervention implementation;
27. Participate in crisis intervention efforts in the building and district level;
28. Keep abreast of new information, concepts, and developments within the field of school psychology in order to update one's knowledge and functional skills;
29. Implement best practices in the area of school psychology which include actively participating in the IEP process;
30. Identify the area(s) in need of additional assessment and data collection;
31. Provide a quality explanation of the eligibility process to parents;  
32. Summarize the procedural safeguards and evaluation results;
33. Perform such other duties as may be assigned by either the Coordinator of Psychological Services or the Special Education Director of Programs and Services.
