As per N.J.A.C. 6A:14, Special Education, the SLP administers and analyzes initial and re-evaluation speech-language assessments to determine students' communication competencies, characteristics, and eligibility for speech-language services.
Plans, prepares and delivers educational/instructional/intervention (including RTI service delivery) programs for children with speech and language (voice, fluency, feeding/swallowing) disorders.
Provides diagnostic evaluations of students referred to the child study team for communication disorders and participates in team conferences related to those students.
Develops and implements an individualized educational program (IEP) in conjunction with parents and teachers for students who are eligible for instruction and intervention and identifies students in need of related services.
Provides individual and small group intervention sessions with students who have been classified.
Provides speech/language therapy services in various settings including pull-out, integrated, push-in services as needed for individual students and groups.
Member of the child study team and serves as a case manager to students under the classification of Eligible for Speech/Language Services (ESLS) students .
Maintains progress monitoring records necessary for each student and completes all required local, state and federal reports, including IEP driven documentation, SEMI reporting, etc.
Provides resources and consults with parents and school personnel on strategies to support speech and language growth
Conducts ongoing evaluations of all students who require speech-language services.
Collaborates with classroom teachers, school counselors, administrators, and parents/guardians as required.
Assists in proper referrals of individuals to agencies and specialists in the community in conjunction with the Child Study Team.
Assumes primary responsibility for requisitioning and maintaining needed equipment and supplies.
Maintains professional competence through in-service education and other professional growth activities.
Assumes other related duties as assigned by the superintendent of schools or the student personnel director.
