  •   DEFINITION: Enhances the educational process by modification or removal of health related barriers to learning and by promotion of optimal level of wellness. Serves as a liaison between physicians, families, and community health care services and agencies to enhance the quality and continuity of health care for all students at the assigned site(s). Assumes responsibility for appropriate intervention, management, and/or referral of all students at assigned site(s), including students with chronic health problems and/or special needs. Provides relevant health instruction, counseling and guidance to students, parents, staff. Upholds professional standards and laws pertaining to health and/or nursing care and District policies. 

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
    (Essential functions, as defined under the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include the following tasks, knowledge, skills and other characteristics. This list of tasks is ILLUSTRATIVE ONLY, and is not a comprehensive listing of all functions and tasks performed by positions in this class). 

    TASKS: Provides case management of students at assigned site(s). Provides oversight, guidance, and evaluation of health office administrative assistant at assigned site(s).  Establishes and maintains a comprehensive  school health program; collects information about the health and developmental status of the students at assigned site(s);  uses data collected about the health and status of a student to determine a nursing diagnosis; administers first aid and 
    assesses injuries and illnesses when necessary; case manages chronic medical needs of students including but not  limited to asthma, diabetes, and seizure disorders; distributes authorized medication; develops nursing care plans; intervenes as guided by the nursing care plans to implement nursing actions that promote, maintain, or restore health,  prevent illness, and affect rehabilitation; assesses student responses to nursing actions in order to reassess progress  made toward goal achievement. 
    Documents Nursing Care via computer program, and gathers statistics for District and state records; participates in  Medicaid in Public Schools (MIPS) program as defined by District policies; monitors immunization records and facilitates  compliance with state immunization requirements; collaborates with other health professionals; assists students, families,  and groups to achieve optimal levels of wellness through health education; collaborates with the health care team in  assessing, planning, and implementing school health services; performs other duties as assigned. 

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND OTHER CHARACTERISTICS TO BE USED IN THIS POSITIONKnowledge of School Nurse policies and procedures.
    Knowledge of Department and District policies and procedures related to health services. 
    Knowledge of Federal and State mandates relating to health services. 
    Skill in applying appropriate theory as the basis for decision-making in nursing practice. 
    Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships. 
    Skill in entering and maintaining student health records in the computer health information system 

    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Work is performed in an indoor environment. Work may involve occasional lifting and carrying weight up to 25 pounds or assisting in moving or lifting children. Walking, stooping, bending, reaching, lifting, twisting, standing and sitting for extended periods will be required as a normal part of the job. Visual weakness must not prohibit the performance of assigned duties. 

    QUALIFICATIONS: 
    Valid Arizona IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card 
    Current Arizona Registered Nurse License 
    Must possess a valid Arizona Driver’s License 
    Current Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification

    PREFERRED 
    Bachelor’s degree 
    Bilingual in English and Spanish 
    National School Nurse Certification.

     Salary: Refer to the PNT 211 Salary Schedule       Hours per Day: 8      Days in Contract: 211     Start Date: 2024/2025
