Carbon Valley Academy K-8 seeks an inspiring music teacher who is responsible for teaching music education to students in grades K-8th grade and assists the staff of the school in the improvement and appreciation of music instruction. Helps students grow in their enjoyment, appreciation, and performance of music through a variety of planned music experiences which include singing, moving to music, playing of instruments and listening and performs other duties directly related to this job description.
MUSIC Teacher essential responsibilities:
- Teaches general music to K-8th grade including harmony, appreciation, history, and ensemble.
- Utilizes repertoire of all types of music literature, including traditional and contemporary that are appropriate for the ages and skill levels of students.
-Plans, rehearses, and directs students in musical programs for school and community
- Differentiate music curriculum to meet the needs of the individual student and the student body.
- Plans a balanced music program, and organizes daily class time so that preparation, rehearsal and instruction can be accomplished within the allotted time.
- Develops and refines music curriculum based on the Colorado Academic Standards of creating, performing, and responding.
- Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior to provide an orderly, productive environment during practice, group rehearsals, and music performances.
- Evaluates each student’s musical growth and contribution to the performance of the group that allows everyone to contribute.
- Communicates clearly with parents and school faculty/staff on the progress of individual students.
- Maintains care/responsibility for school-owned music, musical instruments, and equipment to prevent loss or abuse.
- Cooperation with Principall and staff in providing musical programs for school assemblies, open house, parent meetings and seasonal programs.
Creating an environment where students feel comfortable asking questions and voicing concerns. A place where student voice is not only permitted but required.
Designing, developing, and delivering quality BACKWARDS planned lessons and instruction and curricula that adhere to national and state standards.
Creating suitable assessments and delivering helpful feedback to students during the learning and sharing the progress with parents and other teachers.
Establishing classroom rules and regulations and ensuring that all students understand what is expected of them.
Open to creating social contracts with students and holding them to what is written.
To assist all students in developing skills in the areas of English/Language arts and social studies primarily, but also philosophy and the arts (visual, performance, and media).
Preparing and delivering Quality Learning Experiences via Workshop Model.
Setting up Parent/Teacher conferences twice a year and consistently reach out to families to ensure they are aware of the progress of their child(ren)..
Providing extra resources, support, and interventions for students who are struggling.
Grading papers, updating records, and handling various administrative tasks in a timely manner.
Participating in after school Community building activities (4 required events a year)
Opportunities to run clubs and/or athletics with middle or elementary students
Interested in collaborating with a team and working hard to fulfill the team mate role
Receptive to receiving coaching on a regular basis with administrators and teacher trainers.
Prepare for classes assigned and show written evidence (lesson plan) of preparation upon request of administrator.
Maintain a positive, accepting attitude in working with students.
Establish and enforce rules of behavior and procedures to maintain order in the classroom.
Serve as a resource to teachers through coaching, co-teaching, co-planning, modeling best practices in the classrooms.
Other Duties
1. Maintains professional competence by attending all Professional Development Days (1st Monday of each month), weekly PLC meetings, staff meetings and other professional activities.
2. Consistently implementing professional learning within all class instruction and working to strive towards the school vision throughout everything they do.
3. Participates in various student and parent activities which occur in school including night time and possible weekend events, student clubs and after-school activities.
4. Creates an effective learning environment through functional and attractive displays, bulletin boards, and activity/learning centers.
5. Performs any other related duties as assigned by the Principal or other appropriate administrator.

MUSIC teacher educational requirements:
- Minimum BA in Music or Music Education
- Ability to work with musicians at all skill levels
- Strong instrumental skills, including piano accompaniment
- Orff, Kodaly, or Dalcroze training strongly encouraged
