    Description
    Reports To: Principal

    Hours Per Week: 5 hours each week during each week school is in session (August-May)
    Starting Pay Range: $36.00- $40.00/hour

    Requirements
    Summary of Position

    To provide the fullest possible educational access to each student by promoting health and safety practices, creating a climate of health and well-being and minimizing absence.

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
    1. Identify students with health needs requiring modifications or accommodations in the school setting.
    2. Obtain and interpret health data for child find, special education, and 504 accommodation plans.
    3. Participate as the health expert on the IEP and 504 teams by mitigating health-related obstacles to learning.
    4. Develop and implement Individual Health Service Plans for students with healthcare needs.
    5. Train, delegate and supervise unlicensed assistive personnel for medication administration and nursing procedures.
    6. Assure the provision of first aid and provide triage for physical and mental health issues.
    7. Implement screening programs and health protocols.
    8. Manage communicable disease outbreaks in schools in collaboration with school administration and public health officials.
    9. Provide training for school staff on treatment of students’ health problems.
    10. Institute appropriate disease control measures.
    11. Assure safety and compliance by understanding Colorado statutes and mandates, including public health.
    12. Other duties as assigned

    Qualifications:
    1. Valid state license to practice as a registered nurse through DORA
    2. Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in nursing required
    3. Two years of pediatric experience preferred
    4. Equivalent combination of education and experience acceptable
    5. Two years of experience in public health nursing, preferably in a school district or private school setting

    Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:
    1. Knowledge of special education law
    2. Colorado nurse practice act
    3. Establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, parents, staff, partner agencies and the public
    4. Detail oriented
    5. Ability and willingness to adhere to attendance requirements and to follow school procedures for absence reporting. Regular attendance is an essential function of the position and necessary for the efficient operation of the business. Employees are expected to be on
    time and punctual for work, conforming to established work hours. It is recognized that there are times when a person must be absent due to illness or other reasons.
