GENERAL DEFINITION AND CONDITIONS OF WORK |
Under the leadership of the Department of Special Education, the Virtual Special Education Tutor for Students with High Incidence Disabilities will provide virtual tutoring before school and/or after school. Suffolk Public Schools seeks to close the opportunity gap and advance equity in education supporting students with disabilities. |
This is sedentary work requiring the exertion of up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to move objects; work requires crouching, reaching, standing, walking, lifting, grasping, and repetitive motions; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; visual acuity is required for preparing and analyzing written or computer data, operation of motor vehicles or equipment, determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work; the worker is not subject to adverse environmental conditions. |
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/TYPICAL TASKS |
This position description is as follows: Consult with online teachers and case managers to identify individual student needs Plan, document, and facilitate virtual instruction to meet individual student needs as identified through consultation and aligned with the curriculum Develop and implement scheduled virtual meetings with specific groups of students Additional Duties Performs other related tasks as assigned. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE |
Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university in education discipline applicable to teaching assignment. Must hold or be eligible to obtain a Virginia Teaching License with appropriate endorsement in Special Education. Has three or more years of exemplary teaching experience in special education Demonstrates effective interpersonal skills Experience with providing instruction virtually using Google Meet or Zoom |

Uses standard office equipment such as personal computers, printer, copier and telephone. |
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS (Travel) |
Some travel to school district buildings may be required. |
