SPS GIFTED AND TALENTED SUMMER ACADEMY (ELEMENTARY SCHOOL)
Position: K-5 Elementary School Summer School Teachers
Location: Hillpoint Elementary School
Subject Areas: Grade 3-5 QUEST Students
Employment Dates: July 14, 2025 through July 24, 2025
Salary: $38 per hour
Teachers: $38 per hour paid directly to the teacher (taxable) at the conclusion of the summer program.
Note:
Must be contracted with SPS for the 2025-2026 school year.
Positions are contingent upon student enrollment and School Board approval.
Employment Dates: July 14, 2025 through July 24, 2025
Teacher Planning Days: June 23 and June 24, 2025; 8:00 AM - 1:00 PM
Teacher Work Hours: 8:30 AM - 2:00 PM
Student Hours: 9:00 AM-1:00 PM (Lunch 1:05-1:30)
Essential Functions:
Promotes a classroom learning environment that is safe and conducive to individualized and small group student instruction.
Works with a small group of gifted students along with a team of other highly motivated professionals to develop teaching strategies for the 21st century.
Develops lesson plans and instructional materials, utilizing the division learning management system (Canvas). Translates lesson plans into learning experiences to develop pertinent sequential assignments, challenge students, and best utilize available instructional time.
Conducts ongoing assessment of student learning and progress, and modifies instructional methods to fit individual student's needs, including students with special needs.
Maintains familiarity with district and state standardized tests for the purpose of adapting curriculum to maximize student achievement.
Organizes and maintains a system for accurate/complete record-keeping, grading, and reporting for all student activities, achievement and attendance as required by district procedures and applicable laws.
Encourages parental involvement in students' education and ensures effective communication with students and parents.
Ensures that students’ conduct conforms to the school's standards and school district policies, and establishes and maintains standards of student behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere in the classroom.
Additional Duties:
Performs other related tasks as assigned by school and program administrators as designated by the Superintendent.

Equipment:
Uses standard office equipment such as personal computers, printers, copy and fax machines, and telephone.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Experience working with gifted students and teaching in Governor’s schools or related programs.
Knowledge of current teaching methods and educational pedagogy, as well as differentiated instruction based upon student learning styles.
Knowledge of English grammar, word usage, word denotations and connotations, spelling, literature and other content areas taught.
Knowledge of data information systems, data analysis and the formulation of action plans.
Knowledge of applicable federal and state laws regarding education and students.
Ability to use computer network systems and software applications as needed.
Ability to organize and coordinate work.
Ability to communicate effectively with students and parents.
Ability to engage in self-evaluation with regard to performance and professional growth.
Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others in the course of work. Being team-oriented, flexible, creative, personable and enthusiastic.
