I.       GENERAL DESCRIPTION
 
        Aides assist the building staff with professional duties and are responsible for those specific duties as assigned by the building principal.  Duties are typically those of library aide, lunchroom supervision, playground supervision, clerical production and record-keeping.  Aides may be assigned to cover classrooms for brief periods when a certified teacher is not present; however, aides are present only to support and reinforce students' learning, and are not expected to introduce new concepts to students.  Specific assignments may include one or more of the examples of duties and responsibilities listed below.
 
 
II.      EXAMPLES OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
 
         A.      Work with students or groups of students to reinforce learning material or skills initially introduced by the teacher.
 
         B.      Score workbooks or papers, record grades, attendance information, or other routine information pertaining to student records.
 
         C.      Assist with duplicating, assembling or preparing materials for the classroom.
 
         D.      Clerical aides will assist the building secretary in the performance of clerical duties.
 
         E.      Contact parents to obtain and/or convey student information.   
 
 
 
III.     TRAINING, SKILLS, AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
 
         A.      High school diploma, or equivalent.
 
         B.      Must have general typing and office skills.
 
         C.      Must be able to operate photocopying machinery, computer, keyboard, printer, calculator, telephone, and other standard office equipment, and perform alphabetizing and filing tasks.

REPORTS TO: Building Principal or Associate Superintendent of Curriculum and Instruction for ELL District Itinerant Aides

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
The English Language Learner (ELL) aide will be responsible for assisting second language learners in acquiring English and for evaluating student progress in acquiring the language. Support must be provided at various language levels in the areas of speaking, understanding, reading and/or writing. The ELL aide should have excellent oral and written English skills and an understanding of cultural and language differences, and the diversity reflected in the ELL student population.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
A. Work cooperatively with certified teachers to deliver instruction to multi-level and/or multi-grade students in groups or one-on-one.
B. Work cooperatively with certified teachers to select curricular or supplemental language materials.
C. Work cooperatively with certified teachers to set individual language goals and communicate the progress in meeting these goals to teachers.
D. Participate in district staff development assessment training; administer appropriate language assessments to students.
E. Assist certified teachers in computing contact hours for state reports when appropriate.
F. Work cooperatively with certified teachers to schedule ELL students for language instruction.
G. Assist teachers with home/school communication (i.e. bus or health information, homework, etc.), assist in general duties such as grading papers and/or tests, recording student information in classroom files, gather needed equipment or materials, assist with student busing, help to establish student routines, provide general clerical assistance and classroom behavior management, as approved/requested by the teacher or in his/her absence in the classroom.
H. Provide support and feedback to appropriate ELL staff and school personnel to maintain quality programming.

TRAINING, SKILLS, AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
A. High school diploma, or equivalent for a non-Title school.
B. Must have knowledge of, and the ability to use the district computer system, telephone equipment, and other related office machinery.
C. Bilingual; experience working with non-English speakers; experience living in non-English speaking country and foreign travel are highly recommended, but not required.

         E.      Score and check papers.

         C.     Must be physically able to restrain students, when appropriate, in compliance with accepted district disciplinary procedures.  Must be physically able to lift, or assist in lifting, non-ambulatory students.
 
         D.     Must be able to proficiently operate classroom equipment including DVD player, computer, and copy machine.
 
         E.      May be required to lift and move 20 to 30 pounds of classroom equipment.
