    General Function:
    Installs, maintains, repairs, and adjusts all types of locks and their components for existing or newly constructed buildings, rooms, furniture and vehicles. Cuts and issues keys. Inspects completed work for conformance with specifications, requirements, and compliance with applicable building and safety codes and regulations. Inspects related work performed by contractors. Estimates cost, time, and materials for locksmith projects. Participates in the maintenance and operations of a locksmith shop. Performs general maintenance duties.
     
    Education/Training/Experience:
    Minimum:   High school diploma or GED with 3-5 years locksmith experience.
     
    Preferred:  Certified Registered Locksmith (CRL) by Associated Locksmiths of America. Bilingual— English - Spanish.
     
    Knowledge/Skills and Abilities:
    Thorough knowledge of the practices and procedures of the methods, materials, and tools used in the locksmith trade, including complex access and control systems. Thorough knowledge of all types of locks, fastening devices and related hardware; a working knowledge of electrical locking and security systems and devices; applicable code requirements, including those regulations pertaining to fire exits and door hardware. Ability to work from plans and specifications. Methods and practices followed in the maintenance of tools, machinery, and equipment. Observes safety precautions in the maintenance and installation of electronic and mechanical equipment. Must be able to adapt to changing work priorities, communicate with diverse groups, meet deadlines and schedules, set priorities, work as part of a team, evaluate work by outside contractors, and display a mechanical aptitude. Ability to perform preventative maintenance according to published guidelines. Ability to read, understand, follow, and enforce safety procedures. Ability to use hand and power tools applicable to trade. Ability to follow routine verbal and written instructions.  Ability to adapt to changing work priorities, communicate with diverse groups, meet deadlines and schedules, work as part of a team, and work with frequent interruptions.
     
    Essential Job Functions:
    Performs all functions in accordance with established policies, procedures, safety and environmental regulations, facility and computer security policies and procedures. Functions are subject to change from time to time to meet the needs of the organization. Current essential functions include the following: 
     
    1. Installs locking systems (e.g. doors, door hardware, closures, panic hardware, changes lock combinations, security bolts, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring district facilities, both new and existing, are in a safe, comfortable and operating condition.
    2. Installs locking systems as above on buildings under construction, once the site is cleared by the construction manager. For these installations the locksmith will need to have undergone safety training provided by the construction firm and wear a hard hat on site if directed to do so.
    3. Cuts new or duplicate keys (e.g. building and vehicle keys, file cabinets, desks, cabinets, intrusion alarms, lost or stolen locks/keys, etc.) for the purpose of providing the district with a master key system and ensuring security of its facilities.
    4. Repairs various items, systems and/or components (e.g. locks, worn tumblers, shortens tumblers, springs, changes combinations, exit hardware, etc.) to ensure that items are available and in safe working condition.
    5. Inspects facilities, systems, and their components for the purpose of ensuring safety and identifying necessary repairs and providing an ongoing program of preventive maintenance.
    6. Fabricates unique locks and locking devices to meet the district's specialized security needs.
    7. Diagnoses malfunctions of security systems to identify repair/replacement needs necessary to maintain systems.
    8. Performs minor repair or modifications to doors and/or frames to ensure proper closing and security.
    9. Re-keys locks and changes combinations to ensure secure facilities.
    10. Prepares documentation in a variety of written and electronic formats in or to provide written support in compliance with regulations and/or for the purpose of documenting and conveying information.
    11. Maintains tools and/or equipment to ensure the availability of equipment in a safe operating condition.
    12. Requests equipment and supplies for the purpose of maintaining inventory and ensuring the availability of required items.
    13. Assists other personnel (fellow employees or outside contractors) as may be required to support them with the completion of their work activities.
    14. Performs assigned work in any of the following areas depending on experience: Assisting electricians with electrical work; ssisting with heating, ventilation and air conditioning; etal work including sheet metal and welding; carpet and flooring repairs; plumbing and pipefitting; grounds and landscaping; concrete finishing; plastering; carpentry; roofing; glazing; masonry.
    15. Performs other related mechanical and trades work as assigned.
    Salary Range
    $31,200.00 to $41,340.00 + Based on Experience

    Resources Used in Performing Job Include (but are not limited to): 
    Manual tools and power equipment common in the locksmith and construction trades. District vehicle. Computer for emails and work order system.
     
    Physical/Cognitive Requirements: 
    Ability to (but not limited to)  climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, reach horizontally and vertically, lift up to 50 pounds, walk, stand, sit, carry, hear, read instructions and operating manuals, use hands to manipulate parts, feet to control equipment and machinery pedals. Must possess and maintain a valid New Mexico Driver's License.
     
    Environmental Conditions: 
    Job is primarily performed indoors and involves frequent travel to sites. Exposure to electrical and other environmental hazards.  Work is required on active construction sites. Drives from site to site; both indoor and outdoor work with temperature extremes, as well as work on slippery or icy surfaces, in confined spaces, with sharp tools.

    5. Demonstrates skill in the use of equipment including its capabilities, limitations and appropriate/ special application.
    6. Protects the district’s resources through appropriate and careful use of supplies and equipment.
    7. Utilizes appropriate body mechanics to aid in the prevention of muscle strain/injury.
