Position: Elementary School ELA Teacher

Reports To: Principal

Job Summary: Position is responsible for creating a classroom environment that develops in each student skills of listening, speaking, reading, and writing that are fundamental to effective communication and literate citizenship; that develops appreciation of good literature of all types; that motivates students to read widely for information and recreation; that develops standards for critical judgment of written and oral communications transmitted by mass media; and that discovers and develops special talents of students in the field of English to prepare each student to meet the Illinois Learning Standards.

Essential Duties
1. Teaches content and skills in English language, literature, composition, reading, to middle school students, utilizing curriculum designated by Arbor Park BOE.
2. Instructs students in citizenship and basic subject matter specified in state law and administrative regulations and procedures of Illinois Public Schools.
3. Adapts English material and methods to develop relevant sequential assignments and lesson plans that guide and challenge students.
4. Develops lesson plans and supplementary materials compatible with the District’s basic instructional philosophy and congruent with course / standards; provides individualized and small group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each student and subgroups of students.
5. Evaluates academic and social growth of students, prepares report cards, keeps appropriate records to include attendance reports, checklists, census forms, and other recordkeeping activities, as necessary.
6. Encourages students to think independently and to express original ideas.
7. Evaluates each student’s progress in meeting the course standards for English skills (listening, speaking, reading and writing).
8. Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior needed to provide an orderly, productive classroom environment and implements the Collaborative Problem-Solving model.
9. Identifies student needs and cooperates with other professional staff members in assessing and helping students solve learning, health and attitude problems.
10. Communicates with parents and school counselors on student progress.
11. Supervises students in assigned out-of-classroom activities during the working day.
12. Participates in faculty committees and the sponsorship of student activities.
13. Administers testing in accordance with District’s testing practices.
14. Models nondiscriminatory practices in all activities.

Other Duties
1. Maintains professional competence by attending staff development programs, curriculum development meetings and other professional activities.
2. Participates in various student and parent activities which occur in school including PTO, student clubs and after-school activities.
3. Creates an effective learning environment through functional and attractive displays, bulletin boards, and activity/learning centers.
4. Performs any other related duties as assigned by the Principal or other appropriate administrator.

Salary is based on placement schedule per the negotiated certified staff contract. PROFESSIONAL NEGOTIATIONS AGREEMENT

This is a full time position with health/dental/life insurance benefits available on the first day of employment.

Job Description:
The educator is the primary instructional delivery person in the classroom. Student achievement and growth are dependent on the work and efforts of the classroom teacher. The position is demanding, varied and complex. The classroom teacher must be a relationship builder, have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and be well trained in content knowledge and teaching strategies in a 1:1 school district.

Essential Functions:

Knows the grade-level standards and can translate standards into appropriate early elementary school learning tasks, differentiating and sequencing activities as needed based on student-readiness and assessment data
Possesses strong classroom management skills whereby routines and procedures foster respectful interactions, and high levels of student engagement and agency
Places equal emphasis on developing students’ procedural fluency and conceptual understanding of mathematical concepts in an 80-minute teaching block
Works with instructional coach and grade-level team to effectively implement the district’s math program, Math in Focus; routinely incorporates low-floor/high-ceiling math tasks into classroom practice to formatively assess and develop students’ conceptual understanding of math concepts
Structures effective cooperative learning scenarios, allowing students to engage in rich mathematical discourse and problem-solving
Analyzes formative and summative assessment data to inform future planning; tracks usage data in Dreambox, using it to remediate lagging skills through small group instruction during the daily RtI (Response to Intervention) block
Embraces the district’s Collaborative Problems Solving discipline model, emphasizing student-teacher relationships to develop high-functioning students who engage fully in learning
Works with grade-level team and support staff to effectively accommodate students with health, learning and behavioral needs, adhering to the requirements of an IEP/504
Assess each student’s progress in math; prepares documents and communicates progress reports to students, parents, and school administration
Performs basic student attendance accounting and maintains and submits upon request accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulations
Plans and coordinates the work of aides, teacher assistants, or other paraprofessionals
Takes part in staff meetings and district meetings as assigned
Actively supervises students, helping with recess monitoring, bus loading and unloading as directed
Other duties as assigned by principal

FULL-TIME CUSTODIAN

Summary

Works an assigned schedule at a school site performing custodial duties and limited maintenance work.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Priority is providing clean learning spaces for our teachers and students.
Performs a variety of custodial tasks such as general cleaning, dusting, vacuuming, sweeping, mopping, floor scrubbing, floor stripping, floor finishing and carpet cleaning.
Sets up and takes down furniture and equipment for daily lunches and other events including meetings and any other functions.
Performs semi-skilled maintenance work to building fixtures and furniture as needed.
Performs semi-skilled preventative maintenance work to facility cleaning equipment when required.
Pulls trash can liners with trash from roll around cans and lifts them into the dumpster.
Shovels snow, scrapes ice, spreads salt and picks up trash from facility property as needed.
Must be able to lift and move up to 70 pounds, such as cleaning supplies, cleaning equipment, loading and unloading trucks.

Knowledge (Paid Training Provided):

All aspects of hard and soft surface cleaning, window cleaning, VCT, LVT, wood, rubber, tartan and linoleum floor work, and the use of all types of cleaning chemicals, supplies and equipment for all tasks.
Various hand cleaning equipment such as brooms, dust pans, wet mops, dry mops, dusters, pails and buckets
Various light equipment such as all types of ladders, furniture dollies, supply dollies, mop buckets and wringers
Various heavy equipment such as wet/dry vacuums, vacuum cleaners, walk behind, riding, swing and burnishing floor machines and a carpet extractor machine. High lift equipment.
Knowledge of the use of hand and some power tools
Grounds keeping work, interior and exterior painting work and power washing.
Building safety practices and procedures

Requirements:

The ability to travel between buildings. 5 buildings in total within a small geographic area. This position will be assigned a building and zone but is subject to change based on the department needs.
Must have a valid driver’s license and be flexible to be able to travel between all facilities as required or needed.
Must be required to contact the facility principal or any maintenance staff member with any issues that need immediate attention or any type of emergency. Maintains all the equipment that are used for your position daily.
