    Steward Elementary School District #220 has a full time Kindergarten teaching position available starting for the 2025 – 2026 school year. A minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree and Illinois certification in education are required.

    Job Summary

    Responsible for fostering the intellectual and healthy social-emtional development of children in the first phase of their elementary school experience. Provide the tools and environment necessary for students to begin their formal educational development into responsible adults who are capable of caring for themselves and others. 

    Primary Responsibilities

     
    • Plan, evaluate, and assign meaningful learning activities.
    • Communicate frequently with students' families about academic and behavioral growth and progress.
    • Introduce children to mathematics, language, science, and social studies.
    • Use games, music, artwork, multi-media, books, computers, and other tools to teach basic skills.
    • Use play and hands-on teaching.
    • Teach letter recognition, phonics, numbers, awareness of nature and science and social-emotional skills.
    • Maintain accurate record-keeping of individual student growth and achievement.
    • Correct papers to provide feedback in a timely and meaningful and perform other administrative duties as needed.
    • Create projects designed to enhance learning.
    • Read and stay abreast of current topics in education.
    • Create daily and unit lesson plans aligned with  learning standards.
    • Utilize a variety of curriculur resources to maximize individual, small group and whole group learning.
    • Integrate competencies, goals, and objectives into lesson plans.
    • Utilize curricula that reflect the diverse educational, cultural, and linguistic backgrounds of the students served.
    • Establish and communicate clear objectives for all learning activities.
    • Observe and evaluate student performance.
    • Manage student behavior in the classroom by providing the clear structure, rules and consequences that allow students to thrive.
    • Collaborate. communicate, and cooperate with fellow faculty and staff members in a professional and collegial manner.
