COMPUTER TECHNICIAN
The Computer Technician is a member of the technology department, which is integral to the operations of the school district. Under the general supervision of the Supervisor of Innovation, Assessment, and Special Projects, the Computer Technician role is to support and maintain computer systems, staff and student devices, peripherals, digital AV media systems, and associated instruction, administrative, and system hardware. This includes installing, diagnosing, repairing, maintaining, and upgrading all hardware, software, and associated equipment while ensuring optimal system performance. The person will also troubleshoot problem areas in a timely and accurate fashion, and provide end-user support, training, and assistance where and when required.
ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS:
- A certification in networking is preferred.
- Some college credits in the field of computer science is preferred.
- Documented training in computer hardware, software and network use, troubleshooting and repair.
- Knowledge of computer hardware and software installation procedures.
- Successful related experience in computer and network installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair is preferred.
- Understanding of current operating platforms, computer hardware and associated peripherals, and software applications.
- Ability to inspect and assess network systems, hardware, and software.
- Ability to work independently.
- Self-motivated and directed with a keen attention to detail.
- Abillity to prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment.
- Experience working in a team-oriented, collaborative environment.
- Strong customer-service orientation.
- Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of end-users.
- Analytical, problem-solving, and creative-thinking skills with respect to computer-related issues.
- Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard, mouse, hand and power tools, and to handle other computer components.
- Lifting and transporting heavy to moderately heavy objects, such as computers and peripherals.
- Technical knowledge of network and PC hardware, including digital media systems.
- Hands-on hardware troubleshooting experience.
- Equipment support experience with personal computing devices and peripherals.
- Working technical knowledge of current network protocols, operating systems, and standards.
- Ability to read and understand technical manuals, procedural documentation, and OEM guides.
- Ability to conduct research into technical issues and products as required.
- Effective interpersonal skills and relationship-building skills.
- Ability to present ideas in user-friendly language.
Terms of Employment:
- 12-Month Non-Bargaining Position
- Salary will be negotiated based on experience.
- Evaluation performance will be evaluated by the Supervisor of Innovation, Assessment, and Special Projects or designee.
- Must pass a New Jersey State Criminal History Background Check.
