The Kent Center School is seeking a passionate and creative K-8 Art Teacher to join our team. This position is ideal for an educator who embraces the Teaching for Artistic Behavior (TAB) philosophy, fostering student independence, choice, and artistic exploration. The Art Teacher will create a student-centered learning environment where children develop artistic skills, problem-solving abilities, and creative confidence through hands-on experiences in a choice-based setting.
The ideal candidate is an advocate for the arts, skilled in a variety of media, and committed to fostering a love of artistic expression in students of all ages and abilities. This role requires strong classroom management, flexibility, and an understanding of child development in the arts.

Design and maintain a dynamic, choice-based studio environment where students engage in self-directed artistic practice.
Provide instruction and guidance in a variety of artistic media, techniques, and concepts.
Encourage critical thinking, creativity, and problem-solving through the artistic process.
Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of diverse learners.
Collaborate with school staff and administration to integrate art across disciplines.
Organize student artwork for exhibitions, school events, and community showcases.
Maintain an organized, safe, and well-stocked art studio.
Foster a positive and inclusive classroom culture that celebrates artistic expression and student voice.
Qualifications and Experience:
Education: Bachelor's degree in in Art Education, or a related field from an accredited institution.
Certification: A valid Connecticut teaching certification with an endorsement in Art, Pre-K-12) #042.
Experience: Experience teaching Art at the elementary or middle school level.
Background Check: Complete a thorough background check, including fingerprinting, and follow district policies and state regulations to ensure the safety and well-being of our students.
Collaboration & Communication: Strong teamwork and communication skills to work effectively with colleagues, students, and families.
Various Other Requirements:
Physical Stamina: Must be able to move around the classroom, stand for extended periods, lift 25 lbs., crouch, kneel, and assist students with various tasks.
Clear Communication: Need to effectively communicate with students, staff, and parents, both verbally and in writing.
Classroom Management: The ability to create a positive, inclusive, and structured classroom environment that fosters social-emotional and academic growth.
Mental and Emotional Stability: Ability to remain calm under pressure and be capable of handling the challenges of a dynamic school environment.
Classroom Management: Ability to manage the classroom environment, maintain discipline, and ensure the safety and well-being of students.

Position: Spanish Teacher (FTE 1.0)
Job Summary:
The Spanish Teacher is responsible for providing engaging and effective language instruction to students, developing their speaking, listening, reading, and writing skills in Spanish. This role includes designing and implementing curriculum, assessing student progress, and fostering an immersive language-learning environment. The teacher will integrate cultural studies to enhance students’ understanding of Spanish-speaking communities and collaborate with colleagues to support student success.

Experience: Experience teaching Spanish, language instruction, or world languages at the elementary or middle school level.
Knowledge: Strong understanding of language acquisition strategies, proficiency-based instruction, and cultural competence.
Instructional Skills: Proficiency in differentiated instruction, student engagement strategies, classroom management, and technology integration in language learning.

Deliver STEM-oriented instruction (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) using Project-Based Learning (PBL) methods
Develop engaging STEM learning activities and hands-on materials for students
Promote a classroom environment that is safe, inclusive, and conducive to individualized and small group instruction
Demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills, problem-solving abilities, and serve as a strong, positive role model
Display cultural competence and an awareness of diverse student backgrounds
Monitor student progress to identify strengths and areas for growth
Use learner data to continuously refine curriculum and instruction
Provide timely, constructive feedback to students to support learning
Collaborate on curriculum mapping, particularly in science and math

Utilize NGSS, Bridges, and Illustrative Math to support instruction
Education, Certification, Experience, and Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree (minimum) in a STEM-related field
Valid CT teaching certification in a relevant area
Knowledge of current STEM best practices and instructional strategies
Effective written and verbal communication skills
Strong classroom management and organizational skills
Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team
Prior experience teaching STEM is preferred
Successful completion of a background check, including fingerprinting; must adhere to district policies and state regulations to ensure student safety
Physical Demands and Work Environment:
Ability to stand for extended periods
Manual dexterity to manipulate and assemble small objects or instructional materials
Visual acuity to see objects both near and far
Primarily indoor work environment; occasional exposure to outdoor weather conditions during field-based activities
May involve occasional use of basic laboratory equipment and materials; must follow safety protocols when handling instructional science supplies (e.g., adhesives, simple chemical reactions used in demonstrations)
