The Pleasant Hill School District is currently seeking applicants for the position of:
Director of Childcare for 2025-2026
SUMMARY: The director of the before and after school child care program works in cooperation with the Assistant Superintendent and the school principals to provide a safe, loving, and stimulating environment for children Kindergarten through 6th grades. The director is responsible for all aspects of the before/after school program as well as a full-day summer program and days when school is not in session.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
Establishes positive individual relationships to build student, staff and parent confidence and self-esteem
Keep basic accounting records of income and expenses, including weekly billing of families, and other records pertinent to the operation of the program.
Plan programs that are developmentally appropriate for children K through 6th grade, including field trips and other summer activities.
Creates weekly staff work schedules to maintain student/staff ratios.
Prepares a variety of written documents and/or materials (e.g. correspondence, program descriptions, parent notices, etc.)
Hire and supervise aides and assistant directors.
Maintains program space to create a comfortable, supportive environment to ensure safety of students and staff.
Supervise individual and/or groups of students in a variety of settings (e.g. snack time, group or individual games, playground activities, classroom, homework time, restroom, etc.)
Communicates with parents, students, and staff on a regular basis
Ensure all assigned tasks and projects are completed in a safe and efficient manner
Purchase all supplies, including snacks year round and breakfast in the summer.
Perform other duties as assigned by administration.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
Prior experience supervising children in a camp, educational or daycare program
Leadership experience in programs or organizations is preferred
Ability to develop appropriate relationships with children, coworkers and parents
Have a sincere interest in working with children
Reliable and dependable to work scheduled hours
Strong written and verbal communication skills and ability to communicate appropriately with students, staff members and parents
Ability to be flexible in working with others in a variety of different circumstances
Ability to lift, bend and keep pace with children during their workday
Demonstrated ability to handle information with utmost confidentiality
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Program is open from 6:00 am – start of the school and then end of the school day – 6:00 pm during the school year, summer school and summer program
Full-days will be required to accommodate school schedules and inclement weather days
12-Month Position 250 Day Calendar
Full-time (40 hours/week)
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
Director must be at least 18 years of age and a high school graduate. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The qualified candidate must be a person with patience, flexibility, good communication and public relations skills, and basic computer knowledge. The candidate must be willing to attend at least 12 hours of annual training per year.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
The director must meet the educational requirements of Missouri Accreditation. They are as follows: 1) 6 months work experience in child related area and a Bachelor’s Degree in a related field; 2) 12 months work experience in child related field, Bachelors’ Degree in unrelated field and nine college hours in child related areas; 3) 9 months work experience in a child related field and AA Degree in related field; 4) 12 months work experience in child related field, 60 hours of college in unrelated field and 9 college hours in child related areas; 5) 9 months work experience in child related field and a CDA; or 6) 12 months work experience in child related field and 12 college hours in child related areas.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
While performing the duties of this job, the director will sit and stand regularly. The director will accompany children on field trips, to the local pool, and various play areas. Directors must be able to tolerate periods of time in the heat and cold. Ability to play active games with the children is helpful.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:
Must be certified in CPR and first aid.
STARTING RATE OF PAY: $23.27 per hour with consideration for experience
START DATE: July 1, 2025
