    POSITION TITLE: TOA, Exceptional Student Services Specialist

    GENERAL STATEMENT OF RESPONSIBILITIES: 
     
    The TOA, Exceptional Student Services Specialist provides leadership and support to staff for the continuous improvement of student achievement. The Exceptional Student Services Specialist is responsible for facilitating the development and implantation of standards-based instruction focused on performance in programs within Exceptional Student Services. 
     
    MAJOR DUTIES:
     
    1. Coordinate the design and implementation of District professional development activities to improve student learning. 
     
    1. Provide training in the development and use of the exceptional student curricula and assessment procedures.
     
    1. Train teachers in the development of instructional units tied to State standards.
     
    1. Coordinate with the District Assessment Administrator the MSAA, Aims A, and alternate Civics Assessments for all campuses; to include, interface with the Arizona Department of Education, train district teachers and staff, coordinate and monitor the completion of assessments, and coordinate the entry of scores into the Student Information System.
     
    1. Assist teachers in the selection and use of instructional materials to support standards-based curriculum within the program.
     
    1. Provide coaching to classroom teachers in the delivery of instruction. 
     
    1. Research effective instructional approaches and incorporate those approaches into professional development activities. 
     
    1. Collaborate with Specialists in other disciplines to ensure connections across the curriculum. 
     
    1. Serve as a resource to the Professional Development Specialist regarding content-specific issues.
     
     
    QUALIFICATIONS:
     
    1. Possess a Standard Special Education Teaching Certificate; multiple special education endorsements preferred.
     
    1. Possess a Master’s Degree, preferably in a related field.  
     
    1. Have a minimum of five (5) years successful special education teaching experience in the high school level; teaching assigned in a Practical or community-based program (or similar program) for students with intellectual disabilities. 
     
    1. Have formal training and/or experience in instructional delivery, curriculum, adult learning, and group facilitation. 
     
    1. User leadership and human relations skills effectively with adults. 
     
    1. Have a task-oriented approach to work responsibilities. 
     
    1. Have expertise and experience with standards-based curricula, best practice instruction and performance assessments for students with disabilities. 
     
    1. Have knowledge of integration of technology into delivery of instruction. 
     
    1. Demonstrate a commitment to the attainment of the goals of the District Strategic Plan. 
     
    1. Possesses effective written and oral communication skills.
     
    1. Culturally relevant teaching practices.
