    The Pottsgrove School District has multiple openings for our Instructional Assistant I positions for the 2024-2025 school year.

     

    REPORTS TO: Special Education Teacher/ Supervisor of Special Education/ Building Principal 

     

    JOB SUMMARY: Provide the student or students academic and physical assistance required under the guidance of the teacher and in a professional and diplomatic manner that complies with confidentiality requirements.

     

    PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

     
    1. Protect the confidentiality of all pupil information in accordance with district policy.
       
    2. Prepare instructional materials, implement instructional activities as assigned by the teacher, and record pupil progress in all instructional areas.
    3. Assist the student(s) in situations that may require help in physical, academics and/or behavior modification programs; maintain a progress report.

    4. Assist student(s) with organization of workspace, assignments, and recording homework.
    5. Follow the directions of the special education teacher or the regular education teacher in the inclusion setting.

    6. Assist the teacher with small group instruction and provide coursework assistance to other students in the classroom as needed.
    7. Observe student behaviors and assist in correcting minor issues; alert the teacher of serious issues. 

    8. Participate as a team member in program planning as requested.
    9. Assist student in physical and specific self-care activities such as feeding, dressing, and cleaning and observe student for body language relative to a medical condition and report findings to the nurse.

    10. Assist the teacher with evaluating and reinforcing pupil lessons and mastery of all annual goals and short-term objectives.
    11. Perform clerical duties including but not limited to typing correspondence, answering phones, and copying.

    12. Assist on class field trips, monitor students as assigned, and monitor and assist pupils during lunch period.
    13. Escort pupils to and from bus/van, gym class, library, and the nurse’s office.

    14. Attend conferences, workshops, and seminars as per supervisor.
    15. Perform other duties as assigned by the Special Education Teacher and the Director of Special Education.

      

    SECONDARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

     
    1. Escort students from the cafeteria to the playground for recess; supervise students while on the playground, ensuring their safety.

    2. Distribute lunch tickets to students as needed; escort students to the cafeteria and supervise students in the cafeteria during lunch period.
    3. Escort students from the cafeteria to their encore classes and from classes to the playground.

    4. Monitor students as assigned.
     

    QUALIFICATIONS:

    High School diploma required

     

    Associates Degree preferred

     

    Experience in working with children required

     

    Twenty hours of Professional Development required each year.

     

    Submission of pre-employment medical examination (Section 148 of the Pennsylvania School Code)

     

    Submission of a report of criminal history record from the Pennsylvania State Police (Section 111 of the Pennsylvania School Code) 

     

    FBI Criminal History Record

     

    Submission of a clearance report from the Pennsylvania Department of Public Welfare in accordance with Act 151 of 1994

     

    Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable

     

    Must be considered “Highly Qualified” per the requirements of the Pennsylvania Department of Education.

    Starting Rate: $15.92/hour - 7 hours per day

    Comprehensive Benefit Plan 

    Work Year:  181 days
