    The Retire/Rehire program is for retired Unit 1 PGCEA PGCPS employees who have been retired for less than 5 years. If you have been retired for 5 years or more, please apply to Job 266 - Classroom Teacher/All Content Areas for regular permanent employment.

    This is a 10-month PGCEA position - Pay Table A (see conditions listed below);

    CONDITIONS: 
    For full compensation, a Retire-Rehire participant meet the following criteria:
          
    • Has verification of satisfactory or better performance in last assignment;
    •     
    • Is employed as a classroom teacher in a public school receiving funds under Title One of the NCLB Act of 2001, with more than 50% of student attending who eligible for free and reduce-price meals or an alternative education program for adjudicated youths or students who have been expelled, suspended, or identified for suspension or expulsion from public school;
    •     
    • Shall teach in an area of critical shortage, or a special education class for students with special needs, or a class for students with limited English proficiency, or
    •     
    • Is hired to teach any subject or class or provide education services under a special limited provision granted to the superintendent.
    Retire-Rehire participants not teaching in critical subject areas or in schools not meeting the above criteria are subject to earnings limitation. Earnings limitation for service retirement continues for 5 years following the retirement date.

    A retiree rehired under the Retire-Rehire program may not be rehired within 45 days of the last day on payroll and the date you are rehired.

    JOB REQUIREMENTS:
    The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
          
    • Ability to work with diverse populations;
    •     
    • Knowledge of school organization, goals and objectives, curriculum, teaching techniques, current trends, research, and materials of instruction in field of specialization;
    •     
    • Excellent knowledge and understanding of the teaching and learning process;
    •     
    • Ability to provide instruction that reflects multiple perspectives and multicultural education;
    •     
    • Ability to infuse technology into curriculum;
    •     
    • Ability to work effectively with students, parents, administrators, colleagues, community, and other school system staff; and
    •     
    • Excellent oral and communication skills.

    EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS: 
    Bachelor's degree in applicable field of education from a regionally accredited college or university.

    CERTIFICATION REQUIRMENTS: 
    Holds or is eligible for a Professional Certificate appropriate to area of assignment issued by the Maryland State Department of Education.

    SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
    Supervision of classroom paraprofessional(s) and dedicated or classroom assistants, if applicable.

    While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, talk, hear, walk, sit, and use fingers, tools or controls.  The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision such as to read handwritten or typed material, the ability to adjust focus, and depth perception.  While performing the duties of this job, the employee may occasionally push or lift up to 25 lbs.

    ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
