• Provides thorough assessment and diagnosis of speech, voice, hearing, and language impairments.
• Provides screening to identify speech handicapped children at regular intervals & specific levels.
• Assists in proper referrals of individuals to agencies and specialists in the community as appropriate.
• Provides appropriate individualized programs of therapy to meet individual students’ needs and correct existing speech or language handicaps.
• Collaborates with classroom teachers and other staff members to implement therapy by suggestions for the students’ daily activities.
• Provides information, support, and counseling to parents and families when appropriate.
• Provides in-service education and serves as a consultant to teachers and school staff members on topics concerning speech improvement.
• Keeps thorough records on students receiving therapy or other school-provided speech services.
• Maintains a list of referred, screened, and eligible students.
• Assumes primary responsibility for requisitioning and maintaining needed equipment & supplies.
• Performs other duties as assigned or required.

• College training and clinical experience in the area of speech and hearing.

Job Summary: The job of Transition Strategist is done for the purpose of providing technical assistance in the development, delivery, and documentation of transition services per IDEA and administering the Peoria/Vocational Rehabilitation Transition from School to Work (Peoria/VR-TSW) program. This includes coordinating and executing a variety of professional development activities to educate stakeholders, build staff capacity, collect data, evaluate and adapt procedures, foster interdisciplinary and interagency collaboration, and cultivate relationships with business owners, organizations, and career professionals to create/expand workbased learning opportunities.

•  Educate others about the expectations and requirements of transition services per IDEA
•  Explain and foster the connection between transition services and the AZ Education Career Action Plan
•  Assist staff, students, and families to know and use readily available district resources for ECAP/Transition
•  Model the steps for collecting, analyzing, and transcribing transition assessment data
•  Provide technical assistance to develop, write, and present ECAP-Focused IEPs
•  Research/distribute information about community organizations, activities and events that promote career exploration, work development and training, higher education, and/or the acquisition of adult living skills
•  Present/share information from outside transition agencies, independent living centers, youth leadership organizations, and other entities that may provide or pay for transition services
•  Develop educational materials (guides, brochures, infographics, etc.) to inform and direct stakeholders in various transition-related topics and learning targets
•  Assist in the development of transition and functional living skills courses
•  Assist in the development of the Peoria/VR-TSW program and pathways
•  Identify, procure, and train staff in the use of transition assessments and instructional resources
•  Coach staff in effective instructional methods/strategies for teaching transition-related skills
•  Coordinate outreach activities to achieve a 33% participation rate in Peoria/VR-TSW program
•  Design and train staff in systems of data collection, progress monitoring, evidence of service delivery, inventory tracking, and storing essential records (per district and/or RSA policy)
•  Collect, analyze, and report results of annual ADE Post School Outcome survey
•  Provide professional development (and individual coaching as needed) to improve staff capacity in all areas of transition planning, instruction, and service delivery
•  Ensure accurate and timely completion of tasks related to compliance per the ADES/RSA VR-TSW contract
•  Assist staff to establish community connections and relationships with businesses, hiring agents, job developers, and career professionals for work-based learning (WBL) experiences
•  Train staff in task analysis, work site assessment and the evaluation of work performance
•  Track, monitor, and communicate regularly with Transition Coordinator regarding the status of transition services and the Peoria/VR-TSW program
•  Evaluate the efficacy and effectiveness of services, courses, and programs from a variety of perspectives (e.g., progress reports, satisfaction surveys, course/program assessments, PSO data, etc.)
•  Attend all meetings, training seminars, and professional development opportunities provided by, or on behalf of the Peoria District, RSA, and the ADE as directed
•  Perform other duties as assigned by immediate supervisor and/or director
 

KNOWLEDGE and SKILLS:
 
•  Knowledge of applicable local and federal labor laws, rules, and regulations
•  Knowledge of laws pertaining to special education the rights of employees with disabilities
•  Knowledge of IDEA requirements of Transition Services and related indicators (1, 2, 13 and14)

  • High school or high school equivalency diploma & completion of at least 6 credit hours in early childhood, child development or closely related field in an accredited college or university or 60 actual hours of instruction.
  • N.A.C., C.D.A., C.C.P, or C.P.C. credential & at least 18 months of childcare experience;
  • Minimum of 24 credit hours from an accredited college or university, including at least 6 credit hours of course work in the areas of early childhood, child development, or closely related field & 18 months of childcare experience.

Job Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
The following responsibilities tie into our strategic plan for student success, safety and well-being, stewardship of community resources, and community connection.  We believe these four areas help us remain focused on Peoria Unified’s vision: Every Student, Every Day, Prepared to Shape Tomorrow.
 
Student Success – Manage and educate students while helping them discover and fulfill their potential 
Develop and implement creative and engaging lesson plans
Document and share student grades and evaluations
Safety and Well-Being - Cultivate a creative learning environment and maintain a safe, inviting, and nurturing space for students, staff, and the community 
Set and maintain standards of classroom behavior and uphold District discipline policies
Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities
Community Connection – Enhance Peoria Unified’s culture which encourages and strengthens parent and community partnerships 
Available to students and parents for education-related purposes outside the regular instructional day when required or requested under reasonable terms
Foster positive relationships with students, teachers, parents, and community members
Stewardship of Community Resources – Adheres to effective policies, practices, and accountability of District resources 
Maintain accurate and complete records required by law, District policy, and administrative regulation
Strive to maintain and improve professional competence
Other duties as assigned
 
Requirements:  A valid intern, provisional, or standard Arizona Teaching Certificate; or possess the necessary qualifications to become certified in the state of Arizona.  Must possess or obtain an Arizona IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card.
 
Other Requirements:   
Specialized teaching assignments may require additional training and/or certification 
Must be able to pass a fingerprint and background clearance check
Must be able to obtain and maintain a valid government issued ID
May be required to lift and carry heavy, bulky supplies and materials weighing up to 20 pounds
May be required to lift students weighing up to 60 pounds
May be required to work outside normal working hours
May be required to travel to perform work functions
