JOB TITLE: Elementary Principal

REPORTS TO: Assistant Superintendent of Teaching and Learning
FLSA STATUS: Exempt
CONTRACT STATUS: Full-time/210-Day Contract
SALARY SCHEDULE: Principal
SUMMARY: Facilitates dynamic learning and extracurricular activities appropriate for elementary level students. Coordinates staff and resources for an effective elementary school through strategic planning and collaborative leadership.

Instructional Leadership
Recruits, screens, hires, assigns, and evaluates the school’s professional instructional staff
Supervises the construction of a master schedule that meets the instructional needs of students, meets or exceeds Oklahoma minimum standards, and maximizes the use of available personnel and resources
Creates, implements and regularly evaluates an instructional vision for elementary students with the collaborative efforts of staff
Extra-Curricular Activities
Coordinates a variety of activities for students that create a rich, elementary culture
Establishes appropriate supervision and sponsorship for extracurricular and co-curricular activities, including compliance with all state and national guidelines for participation
Leadership of Personnel
Facilitates the work of administrators to maximize visible, interactive leadership for students and staff
Effectively interviews, selects, and integrates individuals into the campus faculties and staff
Clearly defines expectations for professionalism and staff performance regarding instructional strategies, classroom management, established policies, appropriate procedures, and communication with parents and the public
Financial Management
Oversees the use of district funds – general, bond, activity, etc. – and manages those funds to maximize their effectiveness to benefit students
Structures professional development for staff members so that funds are used in accordance with the appropriate laws and policies
Creates site budgets to maximize site resources and coordinate with district funding to benefit students
Facility Management / Safety
Recognizes that the physical presence of a school displays a message of excellence to the staff, students and community
Coordinate efforts with the operations staff of the district to maintain the building and property in the best working order
Create procedures that establish and maintain a safe, orderly, and effective learning environment
School Climate and Community Relations
Integrates elements of the district’s strategic plan, when appropriate, to support the district’s vision and mission
Involves parents in collaborative educational efforts with a focus on student achievement and school improvement
Promotes exceptional character development for students through opportunities in the classroom, extracurricular activities, and co-curricular activities.
Maintains a schedule of school activities, shares the activities with district leadership when appropriate, and celebrates student success at every opportunity
Maintain a CCOSA membership each school year.
Other duties may be assigned.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Supervises all certified and non-certified personnel assigned to the school including, but not limited to: Assistant Principals, Guidance Counselors, School Nurses, Librarian/Media Specialists, Teachers, Administrative Assistants, Teaching Assistants, Paraprofessionals and Custodial Staff.
Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the district’s policies and applicable laws including interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
Master’s Degree in Education or a directly related field
Valid Oklahoma Elementary Principal’s Certificate
Valid Oklahoma Teaching Certificate
Experience as site administrator, experience as a principal preferred
Experience as a certified educator, five (5) years preferred
KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES: Thorough knowledge of generally accepted principles of educational leadership, strategic planning, and instructional practices for elementary students. Knowledge of procedures, techniques and strategies pertaining to the operation of a school. Ability to carry out responsibilities with little or no supervision. Ability to lead multiple priorities with frequent interruptions. Ability to effectively analyze problems, issues, and concerns for the purpose of formulating appropriate alternative solutions. Ability to interact effectively with students, staff, parents, and community members. Organizational, prioritization, communication and interpersonal skills are required to achieve the goals of this position.
LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret English language including common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from parents, other district personnel, or members of the community. Ability to effectively present information to a variety of audiences in a variety of settings.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to apply advanced mathematical concepts and mathematical operations to such tasks as frequency distribution, determination of test reliability and validity, analysis of variance, correlation techniques, sampling theory, and factor analysis.
REASONING ABILITY: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out written and oral instructions. Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
LICENSES and REGISTRATIONS: Current driver’s license in good standing.
