KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
• Ability to work with families of children enrolled in the preschool programs
• Ability to coordinate and monitor services for preschool families
• Ability to work extensively with agencies in the community to secure services for families
• Ability to implement and/or design goals with the families to meet the needs of the child and family
• Experience or knowledge in working with multi-cultural families
• Ability to communicate with non-English speaking families (especially Spanish) is preferred
• Ability to effectively present information orally and in writing
• Ability to effectively communicate with students, parents, and school staff.
• Ability to collect, maintain, analyze and report data effectively
• Working knowledge of community resources and needs
 
• Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office programs
 
EDUCATION AND TRAINING:
• Minimum Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Human Services, Family Services, Counseling or a related field.

SALARY:  Classified Salary Schedule, pay grade 63

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Effectively and appropriately assess and addresses the needs, characteristics and interactions of students, families, staff, and community.
2. Uses knowledge and understanding of the reciprocal influences of home, school, and community to intervene for student success via such practices as assessment, crisis intervention, home visits, conflict resolution, individual and group counseling, consultation/referral, program development, and coordination of school and community services.
3. Advocates for appropriate services for students and their families.
4. Consults and collaborates with stakeholder on behalf of students and their families.
5. Effectively plans, implements, and evaluates program that promote student and family success.
6. Advocates, facilitates, and contributes to Family Services accountability for outcomes aligned with local, state, and federal policies and guidelines.
7. Provides consultation to parents, teachers, other school personnel and community agencies to enhance student growth and development.
8. Delivers a planned and coordinated program of family services.
9. Participates in professional organizations and continually seeks to improve professional knowledge and skills.
10. Effectively maintain accurate records and adheres to timelines and standards. Entering and reporting data with extra care and constant attention to the security of confidential student and family information.
11. Effectively build relationships with parents and families through collaborative communication, family engagement, goal planning and accessing community resources.
12. Effectively support families in meeting the educational, medical, and developmental needs of their children enrolled in the preschool program.
13. Effectively participate in interdisciplinary team in problem solving behavioral and emotional needs of the child as needed.
14. Participates in appropriate preschool activities that support families and children, including those planned after normal working hours.
15. Participates in training deemed appropriate for the position.
16. Effectively supports and assist the ERSEA (Eligibility, Recruitment, Selection, Enrollment, Attendance) manager with the preschool application process as assigned.
17. Perform other duties as assigned.
 
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
• Ability to be physically active, which includes, but is not limited to, standing, pushing, pulling, squatting, bending, sitting, and walking, including repetitive motions.
• Ability to operate technology for prolonged periods of time.
• Ability to carry furniture such as tables and chairs, supplies and materials.
• Must be able to lift up to 15-30 pounds routinely and 30-100 pounds occasionally.
• Must be able to facilitate the evacuation of students during emergency situations and/or drills.
• Must be able to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
• Must be able to drive to variety of school sites.

NATURE OF WORK: 
Under general supervision assists teachers and therapists in daily classroom activities with the care of children with mental, physical, and emotional disabilities.
 
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
• Ability to maintain composure in difficult situations
• Strong verbal communication skills in English
• Knowledge of the care necessary for individuals with disabilities
• Ability to work with disabled children ranging from 3 to 21 years of age for extended periods of time
• Ability to relate to and interact with disabled children

EDUCATION AND TRAINING:
• High school diploma earned at a regionally accredited school required.
• Two year Associate’s Degree preferred - Associate’s Degree must be from a regionally accredited college or university and must include an emphasis in mathematics, reading, writing and content knowledge and a 2.5 cumulative GPA.
• Applicants with less than the AA degree described above must be willing to pursue the degree during employment. Once the degree is earned, the employee will be eligible for promotion to teacher assistant.
• ETTP course completion and dated certificate must be obtained to be eligible for promotion to teacher assistant position (to register for ETTP, contact ETTP@onslow.k12.nc.us).

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Follows all rules, policies, and procedures of OCS, along with state and federal regulations pertaining to school issues and the Exceptional Children Program.
2. Assists in classroom/student management and maintaining discipline.
3. Assists students with gross motor activities (grasping, crawling, walking, running, holding objects, etc.).
4. Assists students with fine motor activities (playing with toys, cutting, coloring, etc.)
5. Assists students with dressing, eating, grooming, toileting, and personal hygiene and other tasks students are unable to perform for themselves.
6. Assists students with mobility and basic communication skills.
7. Assembles, adjusts, and maintains equipment used in instructional programs.
8. Assists therapists and other specialists.
9. Assists in recording student behavior, progress, and other related data.
10. Constantly monitors the safety and well-being of students in all areas of the school environment.
11. Models and promotes high level of ethical and appropriate behavior.
12. Assists with the supervision of students during emergency drills, assemblies, play periods, and field trips; monitors students during lunch, recess, specials, hygiene routines and snack time; if applicable, serves as bus monitor.
13. Performs other related duties, as required or assigned by supervisor.
 
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

NATURE OF WORK:
 
Under general supervision assists teachers and therapists in daily classroom activities with the care and education of children who could potentially present with mental, physical, and emotional disabilities in a safe environment. Essential functions are fundamental job duties. They do not include marginal tasks which are also performed but are incidental the primary functions.
