QUALIFICATIONS:
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Under the direction of the Kindergarten Teacher, this course is student-oriented with a focus on reading & writing literacy, mathematics, science and social studies. The goal of the Kindergarten Program is to meet the academic and social development of students. The Kindergarten Teacher will design instruction to meet the needs of a wide range of learners by the end of the year moving towards achieving the benchmarks designated for the grade level. Instruction supports a diverse population of students as move through the process of becoming independent learners.
Valid Michigan teaching certificate (elementary)
Ability to plan for and deliver effective instruction, manage student behavior and the classroom environment, assess productively, and self-reflect on instructional effectiveness
Evidence of recent coursework and/or in-service activities directed toward improving professional competence
Experience working with diverse learners and ability and willingness to use differentiated instruction strategies to meet the needs of all students
Demonstration of ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing to students, staff, and parents.
Planning and Preparation
Plan coherent units of study, lessons, and activities with clear learning objectives that reflect elementary standards/benchmarks and district-adopted curriculum
Plan and develop appropriate pre- and post-instruction assessments to evaluate each student's progress
Plan for appropriate use of materials and resources that motivate students to learn
Develop lessons and use instructional techniques targeted to diverse backgrounds, abilities, interests, personalities and needs
Classroom Environment
Organize classroom space and manage classroom instruction and procedures
Create a learning environment of mutual respect and rapport that supports physical and emotional safety for all
Provide behavioral directions in a calm, clear, and professional manner
Use a variety of well-researched strategies so students enjoy an engaging, positive, and effective culture for learning
Develop and follow through on instructional plans; differentiate and modify to meet each student's specific needs
Instruction
Instruction in a manner which balances lecture, student information sharing, discovery and inquiry and whole/small group instruction
Use appropriate questioning and discussion techniques
Engage students actively and meaningfully in their learning
Provide both formative and summative feedback in a timely manner
Be flexible and responsive to student differences
Use differentiated materials, content, activities, instructional strategies, and assessments to meet the needs of all students
Professional Responsibilities
Participate in faculty committees, community events, student activities, and professional development opportunities
Initiate and participate in curriculum development activities related to the teaching and learning
Reflect thoughtfully on teaching practices
Actively contribute to building and district school improvement efforts.
Collect and utilize student data and share with students and parents to improve outcomes
Develop an effective process to communicate with parents and students
